First Call For Help Growing United Way's First Call For Help, under the direction of Rita Icenogle since December 2004, has grown and grown and grown. Now she and her staff ask you to help the program grow some more. They want to change First Call For Help's number from (850) 595-5905 to 2-1-1. "It's a number that's easy for callers to remember and use when they experience a crisis," Icenogle said. "When this happens, hours of phone coverage will increase to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Currently, we are open Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m."
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
First Call For Help has applied for a $50,000 grant from Pepsi that will provide the resources needed to make these changes. A total of $1.3 million will be awarded to programs that achieve the most votes in March.

Your community counts on you:
Be sure you are counted in the Census! |
|
For every 100 people not counted in the U.S. Census, our community may lose an estimated $1.2 million for federally funded programs over the next decade.
Based on the Census outcome, the federal government allocates $400 billion to local, state, and tribal governments each year. This money is used for critical community services such as highways, safety, education, health care, scholarship funding, and more.
It is important that every resident of Escambia County is counted in this year's Census. Please be counted and encourage friends, family members and co-workers to do the same!
