| Menlo School Adopt A Village |
During the month of March, Menlo School students traveled to the Yucatan to bring books to children through the Menlo School Adopt A Village project. Through partnering with BMAB and Proyecto Itzaes, students at Menlo School raised over $12,000 to provide Book Bag libraries and Bookcase Libraries to two Yucatan villages.
"Interact's theme for the year was "Education" and this project has brought it to a global level. We hope this project inspires other high school students to help children who do not have the same access to educational resources as we do. Basic literacy and access to books is a huge step in the right direction," says Blair Nelson, Menlo High School senior and Interact Club member. BMAB and Save The Children Malawi Library Initiative Phase I Update
In December 2007, 2,000 high quality, hard cover children's books were delivered to six rural villages in Malawi, marking Phase I of BMAB and Save The Children's "Rural Village Interactive Library Project". The Malawi project strives to bring books to children without books, improve child literacy in the communities and help develop a sustainable daily read aloud routine. The village libraries, managed by leadership selected within each village, are designed to be integrated with local village school instruction and activities.
The Malawi Project has been well received by the village communities who are eager and enthusiastic for the implementation of these literacy programs. These communities continue to express
their gratitude and their hope that the children receiving these specialized programs will substantially improve their reading skills while providing a transformative impact upon the country's rural village literacy models of instruction. Of special significance is the investment of the Malawi Ministry of Education in these efforts to make this pilot program a sustainable and replicable success!

BMAB Sacramento Regional Expansion Flourishes!
We're excited to announce that we have selected our first 25 sites in Sacramento County! These state-funded preschools will be receiving Bookcase Libraries and First Teachers Workshops in the next few months. The schools represent low-income communities in Del Paso Heights, North Sacramento and Robla School Districts. With our five newly-trained facilitators, we conducted nine First Teachers workshops since the start of 2008. Altogether we hope to impact over 1,100 parents and children in the 2007-08 school year.
A special THANK YOU to the Morgan Family Foundation for their generous 2-year grant that enables us to expand to Sacramento County! For more information about BMAB's Sacramento expansion, please email BMAB's Sacramento Regional Manager Jane Tsai Weaver at jtsai@bringmeabook.org. Donate to the Sacramento region!
