Right behind NYO was Sandy Plains Baseball League of Marietta, Ga., which raised $7,008. Newtown Recreation and Ocee Park, both of Alpharetta, GA, came in third and fourth.
The money raised by all Georgia-based programs will be donated to the clinical research office of the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Unit at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Donations from outside of Georgia will be made available to institutions around the nation pursuing promising pediatric cancer research.
"The level of dedication of these two leagues in particular is unbelievable," said Grainne Owen, founder of Curing Kids' Cancer. "Their donations will make a huge difference in helping to fund new cutting edge cures for childhood cancer. Thanks to NYO, Sandy Plains and all of the leagues around the country that donated so generously this spring."

Honoring a Special Coach
Although we love using our newsletters to spread good news, we must occasionally also deliver some sad news.
Blake Wolfe, who coached at Sandy Plains Baseball in Marietta, Ga. suddenly passed away this month. He was only 39 years old.
Please join with us in honoring the memory of someone who dedicated so much time and effort to coaching and to Coaches Curing Kids' Cancer.
Blake and his wife Jill have been solid supporters of Coaches Curing Kids' Cancer. Their dedication is apparent when you realize that Sandy Plain Baseball donated over $7,000 to us this spring alone. Last spring, the league donated $6,000.
Blake and Jill also have first-hand experience in dealing with childhood cancer. One of their sons, Brady, was treated for a brain tumor.
Our love and prayers go out to Jill and their sons Brady and Connor.
God bless
Grainne and Clay Owen
