Greetings!

With all the world's economic woes, unending war, highly contested political contests, and gasoline shortages, it's hard to find good news these days.

Which is why this month's newsletter is designed to bring you good news:
  • An excuse to eat more chocolate
  • Ways to help you stay healthy this winter
  • Information to help you get a handle on the upcoming election and related healthcare issues
And speaking of good news...we are working very hard to create our very own online store, and hope to "go live" in another few weeks!  Look for more details later this month.

We hope you learn from and enjoy these topics.

More Good News for Chocolate Lovers!

Yes!  I was so excited to read my daily online medical news journal this morning--MORE research about the health benefits of chocolate!

A new study shows that dark chocolate (in moderation) can help reduce the levels of CRP (C-reactive protein) in our bodies.  CRP is a blood marker of inflammation that is correlated with heart disease, heart attack, and stroke risk.  Several large studies have shown that elevated CRP may be even more important than high cholesterol in determining your risk for cardiovascular disease.

Getting your CRP levels down is one of the best things you can do for your heart health.  The drop in CRP seen in this latest study was enough to decrease the risk of heart disease by one-fourth in men, and one-third in women.  That's a lot!

Back by Popular Demand...

As cold and flu season approaches, we wanted to share an article we wrote for our newsletter last winter filled with naturopathic tips to help you stay healthy during the colder months.

During the winter months, many of us spend more time inside with the heat on.  Indoor heating and low humidity create the perfect environment for cold and flu viruses to multiply.  How can you protect yourself from catching those viruses and stay healthy during this time of year?

Click here to read more about ways to minimize exposure, strengthen your immune system, and what to do if you get sick.
The Election and Healthcare

With the upcoming presidential election on everyone's minds these days, we have been paying close attention to the healthcare debate.

The New England Journal of Medicine has published a non-partisan comparison of what the Obama and McCain healthcare plans entail, and we found the following summary article fascinating and very helpful in understanding the differences in each plan.

Since we found it interesting, we thought that you, our readers, might find it interesting as well!

Please feel free to pass on this newsletter to your friends and loved ones.
