1. Fido al Fresco
Table for two? Your dog can't hold a fork, and he may lack table manners, but there's no reason the two of you can't go out to eat. With six Southland locations, Lazy Dog Cafe welcomes four-legged friends at its outdoor tables, and waiters will recite a special doggie menu on request. Find one nearby. Or try Madison Square & Garden Cafe in Laguna Beach, which not only welcomes dogs but also hosts benefits for local animal organizations. Map it.

2. Park It
Dip into some banana pancakes while your dog devours the "Wrangler Roundup" or the "Rover Easy" off the Canine Cuisine menu at the Park Bench Cafe in Huntington Beach. Map it. (A second dog-friendly location, Kokomo's, is south of the Huntington Beach pier at Lifeguard Tower #5, open weekends in spring and daily in summer.) Work off your breakfast at Dog Park across Goldenwest Street, or head down Goldenwest to Huntington Dog Beach.

3. Date Night
Canoodle with other canines on Doggie Date Night every Monday at 6 p.m. at Fred's Mexican Cafe near the Huntington Beach Pier. Order your own entree (shrimp enchiladas, anyone?) and your dog will be served up a stew made just for him. Map it. Or stop in for the "Thank Dog It's Friday" event at Roots Gourmet in Long Beach, where your dog will get a free bowl of chow with the purchase of yours. Map it.

Help Me Find A Home

crossroads2

You'll have a true friend in Genevieve, a gorgeous pure-bred 3-year-old Sable Shepherd. A people-loving pooch, she's perfect for someone with German Shepherd experience looking to have just one dog in their household.

Professionally trained, Genevieve walks well on a leash and knows the commands for place, sit, down, come and stay. She's crate-trained and loves going for walks and playing ball in the back yard. Fearful of aggressive dogs, she won't enjoy the dog park, but you can help socialize her with trips to calm places where she can sniff out other dogs.

If you'd like to meet Genevieve and her trainer, contact Coastal German Shepherd Rescue at ocdogs@coastalgsr.org or fill out their online application
