THE NEW ISSUE OF PETSGUIDE! | JULY - AUGUST  2011

The New Petsguide is Here!

 Just the FAQs

Most of us, at one time or another, have wondered whether we actually need to license our dog (yes, you do). Or tried to figure out what is worthy of a visit to the vet's office - i.e. do you really need to pump the one-pound Hershey's chocolate bar out of the dog's stomach? Again, yes! From silly to serious, Petsguide is here to help with a FAQs editorial you won't want to miss. In addition, we share over 1000 pet resources, from pet-friendly restaurants to more practical information, such as where you can find a good training program, as well as emergency resources. There are 40 pages loaded with everything pet. Gecko and turtle owners, we've got you covered, too! Basically, if you have a pet, or know someone with a pet, you will want to pick up your copy of Petsguide as soon as you can. Meow! Woof!

Free copies are available at your local vet, groomer, pet retailer, or other pet-friendly establishment. If you need help locating a copy contact us by sending us your zip code and we'll point you in the right direction.

Golden Oldies Senior Dog Contest

And the winner is...

It's finally here! We are proud to announce the winner of Petsguide's Golden Oldies Senior Dog Contest! We enjoyed looking at the photos and reading the wonderful stories of all sixteen contestants.

Our Petsguide readers love their "Golden Oldies." They happily shared how each pet has made their life better. They included rescue dogs that were lucky enough to be taken in and pups that have been with their owners from the very beginning. No matter how long they've been in the family, each owner expressed how much happiness their dog has brought to their home.

Our contestants ranged in age from ten to our oldest contestant, Lucy, still loving life at the age of 20. Wow! As expected, some of our doggies have slowed down a bit (don't we all), but many are still acting like pups. Unfortunately, we also had two of our contestants pass away during the course of the contest. We know all of you will join us in sending our heartfelt sympathy to the parents of Quinn, who was rescued from death row, and Katie, a beautiful "Golden Girl" until the end.

With that said, we are excited to announce our second runner up, Morgan, a twelve-year-old, bright-eyed Belgian Shepard/Chow mix. Martina Steege adopted Morgan ten years ago.

Our first runner up is the adorable 10-and-a-half year old yellow lab, Serena. Joan Smith says, "She is the princess of the household."

Way to go ladies! Morgan and Serena will receive a custom-made leather or hydro collar from  Hot Dogs All Dressed, compliments of Chuck and Toby in Long Beach.

And now,  the moment you have been waiting for... The winner of this year's Petsguide Golden Oldies Senior Dog Contest, with the largest amount of votes, is the beautiful Katie Guerin. Katie is no longer with us but her owners, Jerry and Kim Guerin, told us she loved backpacking, camping and kayaking; she was a true outdoors girl. Katie was "The love of their lives." They were blessed to have her for twelve years before she lost her battle with cancer.

In honor of Katie, her family graciously donated her Spa Day with Pussy & Pooch to Pet Harbor Animal Shelter, where we are happy to report; Jerry and Kim have since rescued another Golden Retriever named Mac. Thank you to all of our contestants. In our eyes, you're all winners!

Help Me Find A Home!

Frannie and her three babies were found abandoned in an

empty warehouse. The little family was found by a man who turned her and her three puppies into South L.A. Shelter. Frannie is about

1-2 years old and is most likely a Chi-Doxie Mix with soft, floppy ears.

Frannie's a great cuddler who gets along great with other dogs. She is leash trained, very loving, has a sweet personality, loves kids and is potty trained! Frannie enjoys long walks, taking naps, playtime and lots of kisses!
