ICIS's geospatial point based address system, AddressBC, is nearing development completion. Even though the product is yet to be released, the City of Vancouver has already started the ball rolling with their early adoption of the AddressBC data model.
In late December 2009, Vancouver provided ICIS with the first data submission in the AddressBC data format. While the AddressBC system is currently populated with addresses, these have been generated through an in-house address conversion process designed to seed and test the AddressBC system during development. Vancouver is now the first jurisdiction to implement AddressBC by building in an extraction script that prepares their address data for sharing with ICIS.
Vancouver's commitment to supporting ICIS includes maintaining the currency of their address and parcel data. To achieve this, the extraction script is run weekly and will be loaded to Vancouver's OpenData Catalogue that has been created to support Vancouver's parcel and address data submissions to ICIS.
Vancouver's innovative approach to sharing data ensures that the best available data is shared with ICIS to meet the business needs of ICIS members.
