| ICIS has entered a value-added reseller agreement with Landcor. Landcor serves the real estate and development industry with customized reports and an on-line property evaluation algorithm, called The Valuator. The Valuator provides anyone with an ability to get an up-to-date valuation of a property's market value, by comparing the property in question with similar comparable properties in the area, and uses BC Assessment's assessment value as well. The use of ICIS data will be limited to creating a "picture" of a local cadastral area, showing the relative location of those comparable properties to the property in question. ICIS has also agreed to provide Landcor with access to BC Assessment's Assessment Fabric and utility infrastructure data, as those datasets can be incorporated as well into customized reports.
Landcor is prohibited from any full publication or publication, trade or sale en masse of ICIS data over its website - it can only use the cadastral data in the Valuator as described, and other data in customized reports for government and often banking or insurance companies analyses.
Revenue from the Landcor VAR agreement will flow directly into our CivicSpatial program, to provide more funding to help local governments improve the quality of their spatial data. As a member of ICIS, your local government can apply to the CivicSpatial program for funding and / or technical assistance - contact Steven Garner at ICIS for more information. .
The reason for this email is that your organization is one of the local governments with Special Terms in your Data Sharing and Licensing Agreement, that requires ICIS have your approval before using your data in VAR agreements. If you or your administration are concerned about how much revenue will be generated, or where the revenue goes, please contact the ICIS office for clarification. If, for any reason do not want your data used in this VAR agreement let Janice Appleby at the ICIS office know that your data is not to be included in the Landcor agreement by 12 noon pacific time on February 22nd, 2008.
Remember, all VAR agreements are scrutinized and approved by the ICIS board of directors, including the local government members. The board has approved this agreement as being a good arrangement for ICIS members and an appropriate use of local government and other data that serves to benefit the citizens and economy of BC.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. |
