The MTAM Board of Directors and the Education & Continuing Competency Committee are pleased to provide members with a complete outline of the courses being offered at the 2010 Spring Conference.
Registration opens on Monday, February 8th.
Members may register by mail/fax/on line/ by phone.
Registration is limited for each course and will be accepted on a 'first come - first served' basis.
Register for two one day courses at the two day price. ($367.50)
Registration fee includes lunch and refreshment breaks.

Originally from Adelaide, South Australia, Ian Kamm has lived in Toronto since 1990. He graduated from the massage therapy diploma program at Sutherland-Chan School & Teaching Clinic in 1997 and has been teaching there part time since 1998. Ian currently teaches clinical assessment at the Sutherland Chan School of Massage Therapy in Toronto. He also has 10 years of clinical experience at his own clinic in his 'Cabbagetown' neighbourhood.

Learn how to differentiate between muscle pain and joint pain. If you know what you're treating the outcomes of your massages will dramatically improve. This will considerably increase your client repeat and retention rates.
This course is almost all 'hands- on' so you will be practicing the material as you learn. Extensive notes are part of the course that will be made available to help refresh your memory when you're back at work.

 Cindy McNeely, Registered Massage Therapist trained at Sutherland-Chan in Toronto in 1984 and has been in practice for 23 years. She has been teaching in various Massage
Therapy Colleges since 1988. She is the Co-owner of Trimesters: Massage Therapy Education which was created in 1995 to provide comprehensive, consistent, and accurate information about all aspects of the perinatal experience including a primary goal of raising the standards of perinatal Massage Therapy throughout North America.
As well as an R.M.T., Cindy is also a Doula attending births, providing therapeutic massage and education for families related to babies and children, and working extensively with high-risk pregnant clients.
In 1995, Cindy McNeely created the first Canadian Level III Perinatal Hospital Massage Therapy program. This program has trained many M.T.s and students from 4 Ontario M.T. Colleges to date. This program works within High Risk Pregnancy Units, Labour & Delivery, Postpartum, and the Transitional Care Unit (with infants in the hospital). As well, in-service presentations have been created for other Perinatal healthcare professionals such as clinical nurse specialists, nurses, yoga instructors, and prenatal educators.
In 2001, Trimesters began an ongoing collaboration with the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage to create a 125 hour Perinatal Certificate Program which is an adjunct to the 2,200 hours of their primary training.
Cindy has presented courses at previous MTAM Conferences and always receives high ratings in her evaluations. Her assistant Allison Hines provides additional assistance to those registered.

Dr. Spina holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from McMaster University. He later graduated with summa cum laude and clinic honors from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College as a Doctor of Chiropractic and subsequently completed the two-year post-graduate fellowship in sports sciences. Being the recipient of the 'John W.A. Duckworth Award' for the highest standing in Human Anatomy and Histology, Dr. Spina became the first pre-graduate student to tutor in the cadaver laboratory in the Dept. of Human Anatomy at the Chiropractic College, a position he continued throughout his post graduate fellowship program.
In addition to being an F.A.P.© instructor, Dr. Spina co-owns and operates the Sports Performance Centres (sports medicine and high performance conditioning centres) in the Greater Toronto Area. He has also authored chapters in various sports medicine textbooks, and is a published researcher.
This seminar includes training in palpation of specific anatomic structures of the head and neck, Temporomandibular joint (TMJ), thorax, low back, and pelvis. Structures covered range from the pterygoids, to the suboccipital triangle, to the external oblique, to the gluteus minimus. In addition to soft tissue palpation training, functional assessment and treatment options are discussed for each and every structure covered.
Auxiliary topics include discussion of current clinical research regarding the assessment and treatment of common conditions such as Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD), Cervicogenic Headache, Spinal pain (low back pain, neck pain), Pelvic hypermobility, and many more.

In this 1-day workshop we will explore sleep, which is a subject of increasing interest with respect to massage therapy efficacy in helping people sleep, but not a traditional area of knowledge or expertise for massage therapists. There will be an overview of the nature and stages of sleep, sleep's physiological functions, the broad-based effects of insufficient sleep, and the role of sleep in physical and mental health. This will be followed by a discussion of the causes, characteristics and classification of sleep disorders. We will also take a look at what is showing up in the research literature about the role of massage therapy in promoting restorative sleep.

We find out how in this full day workshop.
Don Dillon, RMT is the author of Better Business Agreements and the self-study workbook Charting Skills for Massage Therapists. Over 60 of his articles have been published in industry publications including Massage Therapy Canada, Massage Therapy Today, AMTA Journal, Massage Magazine (on-line), AMTWP Connections, Massage Therapist (Australia) and various massage school and professional association newsletters. Don has received the Ontario Massage Therapist Association (OMTA) President's Award of Merit, two Hand of Thanks, and the Ken Rezsnyak award.
