Message from Elayna
Hello Dear Friends of the New Children,
We  invite you to visit the elayna.org site, as we have revised it considerably and added lots of new information. Lately, it has been difficult to keep up with all the new information on the children.  So please think of us when you come across some new information and share it with everyone by posting it on the Discussion Board. (It takes only a few minutes to register and confirm your email address.)

Raising the New Kids is uncharted territory for all of us.  These children don't usually respond well to parenting in the way that we were raised.  So we are all in learning mode and I hope you will share your experiences as Jodi Parker did in her article about her Crystal son's health issues.

I'm always glad to receive your emails too.

In service of the children,
Elayna (Eileen Broer)

Tara, Elayna SLC 3-08Successful Mothering
Convention Tara Treiberg and I (pictured at the convention) had a lovely time meeting hundreds of mothers of all ages at the Successful Mothering Convention in Salt Lake City in March.  Our program, Raising Today's Challenging Children, was very well received. Several people said they were both surprised and delighted to find the topic of Indigo and Crystal Children represented at the convention.

Our focus was helping parents to understand the special characteristics and parenting needs of their Indigo and Crystal children -- and all of the New Children, regardless of what they are called.  (Please click here to read why I think the labels are still needed at this time.)  Tara mentioned during the presentation that she does not like being called an Indigo, though she feels that she is one and fits all the characteristics.

Parenting Tip
Provide Frequent and Daily Counter-Balancing Activities to Your Child's "Screen Life"

Book Beyond the Indigo Children
P.M.H. Atwater gave me this parenting tip in our correspondence.  She is the author of over twenty books, including Beyond the Indigo Children(pictured).

We all know that today's children view the world through all types of screens - video screens, television screens, computer screens, cell phone screens. movie screens, and others.

This means it is now more important than ever for parents to plan in time for "counter-balances."

P.M.H. told me that a child who has good counter-balances, will be able to handle high technology and retain their health. as well as to have healthy relationships.  So it is critical to provide these types of activities frequently and daily.

Counter-balances are grounding activities and include outdoor and indoor physical activities, intuitive and imaginary activities, and other activities where the child is engaging with something or someone other than a screen.

Examples of Counter-Balancing Activities

Gardening
Having a pet to care for
Cooking
Baking cookies
Doing dishes - the old-fashioned way
Housework
Going to the gym
Sports of some kind
Dancing
Playing in a band
Vounteering
Hiking
Making things
Being creative
Walking a labyrinth
Washing windows
Washing the car
Walking the dog
Writing a story, being imaginative
