So how did two former Marines turn in their uniforms for aprons?  "We had a unique opportunity in 2006, shortly after moving to Orlando to take over a bagel stand at the Winter Park Farmer's Market," says Alex. Their immediate success kept Alex busy while Chris continued to work for KB Home, building homes in Avalon Park. When the opportunity to grow into a retail space came along, the pair jumped at the chance to provide the Avalon community something special.

    "We know there are a lot of choices in the neighborhood," says Chris, "so we work really hard to give each customer a great experience, not just great food." At Davis Bakery, all of the bakery items are made from scratch on premise. "You won't find any box mix or bucket icing in our kitchen," says Alex. "We want to offer an alternative to the grocery store bakeries, so we chose to use real butter, whole eggs, flour and sugar.  These four ingredients are the basis for most of our products."

     Quality ingredients don't stop with the baked items. Davis Bakery is known for their bagel breakfast sandwiches and their variety of hand mixed cream cheese spreads. They open early Monday through Friday at 6:30 a.m.,  "so you can grab breakfast to go and get on the road," says Chris. "All of our menu is designed to get you in and out quickly, but without the feeling of being a fast food restaurant."

     "But for those who want to linger," add Alex, "we now have free Wi-Fi, plenty of seating, and daily lunch specials at $5.99."

    In addition to traditional birthday and dessert cakes, Davis Bakery & Co also offers customized cakes and from scratch pies, and because everything is baked on demand they recommend calling ahead to place your order, especially for holidays and special occasions.
