The Kiwanis Club of Avalon Park meets the first Thursday of each month at 8:00 a.m. at Beef-OBrady's in Avalon Park.  The club was chartered in October and has over 30 members now and is very active.  In September we took part in the national Beach Clean-Up Day and members cleaned up Cape Canaveral national Seashore.  The Club also sponsors service clubs in all the lcoal schools and serves as advisors and mentors to the kids.   We also started the new Kiwanis Reading Program where we volunteer at 5 local elementary schools every week in a variety of classes at each school.  We also recognize a teacher at each school each month and approximately 30 kids at each school with their Kiwanis Terrific Kids awards.  This coming month the club is continuing these school programs in addition to volunteering at Give Kids the World, helping at the EOCC Education Day and sponsoring the Child Rescue Network Kids ID cards, holding a chili cook-off as part of the Avalon Park Oktoberfest and holding our K-Family meeting for all our service leadership clubs where we all meet to share goals for the upcoming year.  To find out more about our Club and how you can be involved please contact Dave Schmitt at dave.schmitt@dseorl.com.
