New Year - New Art
"An artist cannot talk about his art any more than a plant can discuss horticulture."
By: Jean Cocteau, Newsweek, 16 May 1955

Try something new

What does 2008 hold out for you?Ode to NYC

For many the New Year is a time for resolutions & new habits for a new year. Have you considered enriching your life with culture and art as one of those something new? Here are five ways:

1. Choose one neighborhood per month in your area - experience new food, culture and architecture.

2.  Start a book club with friends. They can be an excellent way to enjoy books more and challenge your mind; they can also encourage you to read more, or to read books that you might not normally choose. In short, most people join or start their own, in order to have fun, make friends and stimulate the brain cells.

3.
Seek out public art in your city. Did you know that before public art lands on a street corner it has gone through committees and competitions? Do you know who the artists are that are on your cities corners or in front of businesses. Why not made a day of it and find out!

4.
Attend art festivals, museums, expos or a "Art Opening" / "Vernissages" (varnishing, from French), also known as a preview, private view or simply opening. It is usually a social event that people attend to be seen, strolling around with glasses of wine and canapés, talking to artists about the works in the exhibition.

5.
For days when you are feeling not-so-creative: try movies about an artist. (Pollack, Camille Claudel, Vincent and Me or BBC documentary Simon Schama's "Power of Art", to name just a few.)

 FrenezieKevin "TRI-ART"!

I haven't found a company whose quality of acrylic paints comes anywhere close to that of "Tri-Art". I have had the privilege to meet the owners. In Episode 14 of "Outside the Artist Studio" Randal Wark & I, visited the factory that makes my favorite paint. From Sludge to Jello, we talk about the many uses of Acrylic paint. You'll understand more once you listen to the interview with Rheni. Tri-Art has recently linked me to their website.

OUTSIDE THE ARTIST STUDIO - Returns

"See you on the Outside"...

Outside the Artist Studio has been on hiatus and just like this newsletter - "We are back!".  With one show is in queue and two new ones in editing, we also did a "special" podcast that will examine the bond between "creating" art and how music adds to ones creativity.

We will keep you posted as to when they are released. To hear and subscribe if not already part of our our growing number of listeners, please visit :http://www.outsidepodcast.com.
