RUTH GRAHAM: "FINISHING WELL"
| |
"Raised as a Presbyterian, Ruth Graham had no experience in submitting to a husband's authority the way the evangelist, who was reared in a Southern Baptist family, expected. Ruth once was driving and hit the accelerator instead of the brake, sending her car crashing through a fence. Nobody was hurt, but in a phone call from California, Billy Graham demanded that she surrender her driver's license. Ruth argued with him, standing her ground, according to an account in the Asheville (N.C.) Citizen-Times.
"After a long moment of silence, Billy Graham said, 'I don't recall reading in Scripture that Sarah ever talked to Abraham like this.' Ruth Graham retorted: 'Well, I don't recall reading in Scripture that Abraham ever tried to take Sarah's camel away from her.'"

"But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God."

Greetings!
Greetings from Mexico City!
"Anyone can start well, the goal is finishing well!" I have had the opportunity to repeat this phrase dozens of times in different venues the past couple of years.
This year I have often shared that Jan and I will celebrate 30 years of marriage this coming Monday, but that 30 years is really nothing, because my parents are celebrating 54 years of marriage this year! Then I add that 54 years of marriage is nothing, because my grandparents are celebrating 72 years of marriage a week after our anniversary!! After sharing this, the punch line is always the same, "anyone can start well, the goal is to finish well."
Throughout life there are many ups and downs, joys and trials, but we are thankful to the Lord for the example of many men and women of God who perhaps did not even start well, but in Christ were able to finish well.
May you be encouraged as we are, by the examples of others, as well as the promise of God's strength and grace to finish the task he has given us to do.

SUMMER MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS...

 | |
Paul Strand teaching his Cultural Anthropology Course at Christ for the Nations Mexico Institute (CNM) - Mexico City
|
We enjoyed having Paul Strand from Bethany International with us for 10 days in July. We kept him busy teaching Cultural Anthropology during our summer course at CNM. He also preached at our three services on Sunday.
 | | Edison Queiroz, author of THE LOCAL CHURCH AND MISSIONS from Brazil preaching at our mission conference in June. |
This summer we hosted our church's third missions conference. It was a blessing to see the participation of dozens of churches from not only Mexico City and around the country.
One of the big highlights for us was hearing testimonies from our missionaries and interns, fresh back from the field!
As a result of the conference Kerry has received invitations to speak and help other churches develop their own missions programs.
