Olson Ministry Update
January - February 2011
Kerry & Janyce Olson
Mexico City, Mexico
Greetings!

Greetings from south of the border. Life is full of changes and being on the mission field for most of our lives has given us ample opportunity to experience many types of change.

We sense we are entering into an important phase of our lives and ministries as we can fully focus on our mission and passion to train, mobilize and send Latin Americans to the world's least-reached.  We believe, as many others do that God has uniquely gifted Latin Americans for the missionary task.  Their cultural, economic, and faith experiences may equip them better than those from Anglo cultures to work among certain groups and individuals, especially among the unreached.

Thank you for partnering with us.

For His kingdom,

One Less Hat to Wear!
Kerry turns over the leadership of Christ for the Nations Mexico to a new director.

Four years ago at the request of our Mexican pastors, Kerry was asked to  take on the responsibility of administering Christ for the Nations Bible school (CNM). The time has come to turn over the leadership. Florencio Meneses has directed two of our extension schools in southern Mexico and will be moving to Mexico City next month to take over as director of CNM.

It has been exciting to see the school grow over the past four years. Both the student body and teaching staff have doubled and we opened four new schools last year.

Kerry will continue to direct the Missions school (EMT), one of the three specialization schools within CNM, as well as teach at CNM, but will be devoting the bulk of his time to administering the missions program at the church. The church currently has 33 full-time missionaries and we have the goal of sending 100 over the next several years.

24% of the World's most dangerous cities are in Mexico!

"Where sin abounds, grace abounds much more." - Romans 5:20

Nearly a quarter of the world's most dangerous cities are located in Mexico according to a recent study conducted by Citizens Counsel on Public Security and Justice.

For the third year in a row, Ciudad Juarez located just across from El Paso, Texas in the state of Chihuahua is the world's most dangerous city!  Last year Ciudad Juarez reported over 3,000 homocides (229 for every 100,00 inhabitants) ahead of Kandahar, Afghanistan (169.9). Ten additional Mexican cities made the top 50 list. Interestingly enough, Mexico City did not even appear on the list! Mexico City has 7.6 homocides per 100,000 inhabitants, far below Bagdad with 22 per 100,000.

Please pray for Mexico that many would find their security in the Lord Jesus. The apostol Paul taught that "where sin abounds, grace abounds much more".

This is our prayer as we see the church grow in the midst of much insecurity, increasing unemployment and inflation. May many seek the Lord while he may be found!

UPCOMING TRAVELS

This year will be a busy year of travel for us. Thankfully Jan will be able to accompany Kerry on a number of trips.

Returning from board meetings at Bethany International next week, Kerry travels to visit workers in two countries in Northern Africa. Upon returning, he will teach at a new Youth With A Mission base in southern Mexico and then in Oaxaca at another training school.

Please pray for good health as he has been battling a cold off and on for a couple of weeks
