Olson Ministry Update
January - March 2010
Kerry & Janyce Olson
Mexico City, Mexico
Greetings!

Saludos from the world's largest metropolitan area! At times, we confess that we feel overwhelmed living in this concrete jungle, but it has become home and we do get outside the city on a regular basis to leave the traffic behind and breath some clean air.

We fly up to Dallas tomorrow on behalf of our church (Amistad Cristiana) and Christ for the Nations Mexico to attend the memorial service for Freda Lindsay (co-founder of Christ for the Nations Dallas), who passed away a few days ago. Freda was 95 years young and make a tremendous impact throughout the world.

Next week, we will be teaching at Alejandro Rodriguez' (a Betania graduate) Missionary Training school SIN FRONTERAS WITHOUT BORDERS in Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca. Alejandro and his wife Shayra have mobilzed many Mexicans to do church planting among the Mixteco Indians of Oaxaca state located in southern Mexico. (Read more about Alejandro below). The following week, Kerry will be teaching at Youth With A Missions Discipleship Training School on the Pacific coast in Mazatlan.

In May, we look forward to a week of "down time" in New England, where we will attend James college graduation in Boston.

We look forward to seeing many of you during our furlough this summer. Thank you for your prayers and financial support.

For His kingdom,

Keep praying to the Lord of the Harvest!

LolaAfricaIn Matthew 9:38 Jesus commanded us to "pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest... Recently new workers were sent to serve full-time in North Africa and South America.

We have several students currently studying English abroad, as well as other languages, one is preparing with Wycliffe Bible Translators and others are busy with fund raising, as well as awaiting visas.

Please pray for the new workers leaving this year to the Middle East, Asia, India, Europe and South America.

Pray for our interns currently serving in Africa and Asia.

Pray also for our first ever Missions conference to be held June 4-6.

Kerry preaching in Germany.

JANUARY:
Kerry had the honor of inaugurating our two new extension schools in Mexico, as well as speaking at a missions conference here in Mexico City.

FEBRUARY:  We ministered together in an Otomi Indian church in Bethi, Hidalgo with our friends Leonardo and Margarita Ventura, who are the pastors. We were blessed to see how that work has grown over the years. We have witnessed them tear down and rebuild a larger building for services three times!

Kerry was also in Minneapolis where he attended the Bethany International Board meetings and stopped through Dallas, Texas on his way home, where he spoke at Christ for the Nations.

MARCH: Kerry participated in GlobeServe meetings with fellow missions mobilizers and trainers near Pretoria, South Africa and took advantage of the stop-over in Europe, where he ministered in Neumünster Germany. We will be sending a full-time worker to Betel Ministries in Neumünster later this year.

In addition to the two new extension schools in Ecatepec (Northern Mexico City) and Merida, Yucatan in southern Mexico, we will soon open two new schools in South America.

Both of these schools will start with a Masters degree program in Family Sciences. The start date for Quito, Ecuador is the 8th of May and in Cordoba, Argentina July 8.

Please pray for the logistics, preparation of facilities, promotion and opening of these two new schools.in South America. There is much expectation on behalf of the local pastors and others. We are looking forward to what God will do in each location.

We currently have 420 students enrolled in our 3 schools here in Mexico and are thankful for growth He is giving!

Betania graduate impacting the Mixteco Indians of Mexico
FamiliaRodriguez
Alejandro Rodriguez and family.

Alejandro was somewhat of a hyperactive student when he came to us twenty years ago to study at Instituto Betania in Matehuala in northern Mexico. In fact, he was almost expelled from school!

Over the years Alejandro has matured we have seen how God has used him to start churches among some of the unreached Mixteco peoples of Oaxaca state.

Oaxaca pronounced "Wa Ha Kah",  has the highest concentration of indigenous peoples on our continent and there are still several unreached people groups.

For several years, Alejandro and his family lived among the MIxtecos in primitive conditions. The last several years they have dedicated themselves to training and preparing others to minister to the MIxtecos, as well as other ethnic groups.

Once again, Jan and I have the privilege of spending several days with Alejandro and his family and will be teaching at their school SIN FRONTERAS the first week of April. Please pray for our ministry time with them.

Praise Report!

The leader of our team in Asia is in Mexico on furlough. He and his wife were able to legally adopt a 2-year old child and recieve custody in less than a month's time!  This is certainly a miracle for them, as the process here in Mexico can take longer than 2 years!

Please pray for them as they still need additional paperwork done before returning to the field to initiate the business project we have been working on for nearly two years now. This project will allow workers to stay legally in the country, as well as serve a a ministry platform.
