OLSON MINISTRY UPDATE
January - February 2009

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO

Greetings!

Saludos from south of the border!

The current global financial crisis has affected every industrialized country in the world. Many have lost a good percentage of their savings and some have lost their jobs and have for the first time joined the ranks of the unemployed.

While the "world" is busy trying to hang on to what they have or as my dad says: "Get all they can and can all they get!", I want to remind you that there is NO unemployment on the mission field!

Everywhere I go visiting our missionaries, I always hear the same request... "Send us more workers!"  But don't just take my word on the subject. Two thousand years ago, Jesus told us what we are to pray for, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few, Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore to send out workers into his harvest" (Matthew 9:39). While the lack of workers seems to be a timeless spiritual truth, it should not discourage us from continuing to pray and ask God to send out more workers today to the world's least reached..

Jan and I have given our lives to "asking for", preparing, sending out and giving pastoral care of workers into God's harvest and are excited to see new workers being sent out on nearly a monthly basis. We don't ever anticipate being unemployed and are thankful for your continued prayers and support on our behalf. There is no unemployment on the mission field!
More workers to Asia
EASIAGROUP
March 2nd, four more Mexican workers leave for Asia. One of the single girls actually has a grandfather from the country where they will be serving.

Please pray for them as they begin language learning and cultural adaptation, as well as the start-up of a business endeavor with our three existing missionaries in this location.

Note: No names or locations can be given due to sensitive nature of their country of service.
Brothers & Cousin Reunion
2009logo
This month JONATHAN finished his Discipleship Training School with Youth With a Mission in Chiang Mai, Thailand and spent some time "spying out the land" in China, checking out the possibility of teaching English there in the future.

Jonathan surprised his oldest brother JOSHUA by showing up in Boston on February 26.  Joshua is there on vacation visiting JAMES at Endicott College. Cousin Sean Garborg flew in from Chicago for the long weekend. Jonathan came in on the same flight as Sean... A wonderful coincidence!

Jonathan arrives back home to Mexico City March 6.

26th team to Panama
kunaboy
Over the past 7 years, we have sent out many teams to Panama to assist our missionaries with a church plant, as well their work with the Kuna Indians on the Caribbean side of the country.

Our 26th team was sent this month and just returned. Last night at our monthly Friday Missions Night we were blessed to hear once again many testimonies of what God did in the lives of the team members, as well as those touched by their ministry.

Team members, which included several children performed a play and ministered in three different locations. In each place they saw people come to Lord and after 8 days abroad nobody wanted to return to Mexico, despite very rustic living conditions.
Our biggest challenges yet!

HOUSE PURCHASE
We were informed by our church here in Mexico that we need to purchase the condominium we are renting from them or look our for another place this year. We see this as an opportunity to finally purchase our home, something we have wanted to do for years. The church would sell us the condominium at the cost they paid for it several years ago. Additionally due to the recent peso devaluation, it's a great time to buy. Please pray for us as we seek financing for $80,000 dollars.

MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN ASIA
Another large financial challenge this year is raising funds for the Mexican restaurant in Asia. This project will exceed $600,000 dollars. Please pray for us as we begin casting vision and raising funds of this project. It's exciting to be part of a church that is willing to take on a challenge of this size in the midst of many other projects.
We thank you for your prayers and support for our personal and ministry challenges this year.
