BEASY Fracture mechanics software

NEW FRACTURE SOFTWARE BEASY V10r14 will provide further significant new features, capabilities and improvements, building on previous releases. Some of the major enhancements will include:

* Improvements and new interfaces to the BEASY FEM integration tools allowing greater flexibility in model creation

* Tools to add and modify loading on BEASY models

* Creation of ABAQUS and NASTRAN result files from BEASY results

* New BEM zone extraction tool to simplify sub modelling

* Improvements to the crack remeshing to provide more robust crack growth simulation

* Support for ABAQUS 6.10 (both 32bit and 64bit)

* New Rainflow cycle counting tool

* Improved modelling of contact on crack faces and new result output of relative displacements between crack faces

* Enhanced documentation and user guide

* Use of FE models with multiple sub cases and multiple load cases

The focus of the new release is to improve the integration between BEASY Fracture and FEM tools such as ABAQUS, NASTRAN and ANSYS, and to further to enhance the capabilities and robustness of the BEASY crack simulation technology.

NEW DEFECT SCANNER Crack-like defects can occur in components and structures as a result of material flaws, manufacturing defects or as a result of in-service damage. While understanding the cause of a defect is important, from the point of view of planning future maintenance, the key information required is the critical crack size at any location on the component or structure. The Defect Scanner will scan a structure and provide a map over the structure of the Critical Crack Size.

The Defect Scanner tool is being developed to enable FEM models to be scanned to provide definition of the areas of a structure where engineers/designers anticipate increased risk associated with crack development, and to report the critical size of cracks in each of the areas specified in the model.

The critical crack size, in this analysis, is the crack size at which a crack reaches a specified Stress Intensity Factor value. This could either be the threshold SIF value, in order to compute the size at which cracks may start growing, or the critical SIF value, thus computing the size of crack that will cause part of the structure to fracture.

Once the critical crack sizes have been computed, these can be further investigated using other BEASY fracture products to provide more accurate SIF result computation.

BEASY Corrosion Software

NACE CORROSION Conference and Expo, Houston, USA, March 13-17 2011. We will be presenting our corrosion modelling services and software technology at this year's NACE Expo. Of particular interest this year will be a presentation on recent developments in optimizing the timing and the design of CP retrofits and the forthcoming release of the BEASY V10r15 Corrosion software.

The new software capabilities will provide valuable information for CP design optimization, including the use of "long term polarization" curves to predict if a structure will polarize and if - after a loss of anodes - a structure will re-polarize. Other improvements will include tracking of anode consumption over the life of a structure and "point and click" creation of anodes on structures.

Training Courses  Hands-on courses which provide training to maximize the benefits from BEASY's fracture and corrosion software, will be held in the UK and US as follows:

UK Corrosion Course - March 8th-10th 2011
UK Fracture Course - March 15th-17th 2011

US Fracture Course - April 13th-15th 2011
US Corrosion Course - May 4th-6th 2011
