Greetings!

Happy New Year!  As the New Year begins, we wish you health and happiness.  January's meeting showed the Fashion Group International Spring/Summer 2010 Trend Report as well as a panel discussion DVD led by Donna Karan and a distinguished group of retail experts. This Saturday, February 6, we are excited about Education Day.  Karen Brunger will bring new ideas and motivation to us for making this year the best ever for our businesses.  Stay tuned for more informative events in the next few months.

We also are sending chapter history information to international.  If you have photos, news items or any other information that you would like to add to our chapter history, please contact me asap.  Your input will be greatly appreciated.

As many of you know, our Chapter Member of the Year, Catherine Schuller, suffered a stroke a few months ago.  She has recovered amazingly.  However, she is having heart surgery February 4.  A heart condition was discovered during the hospital stay for the stroke.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers!

Thank you for your continued support.  May this year be your best year ever!

Top 10 Valentine's Day Gift Suggestions

Make it a Special Day!

1. Lingerie/Underwear- Lingerie is a Valentines classic. If your relationship is special, give your girl a cute bra with matching panties. For your special man, give him boxers in his favorite print or color.

2. Specialty Gift Baskets- There's no better way to say "I Love You" than to create a customized gift basket for that special someone. Fill it with lots of fun stuff:  chocolate, lotions, candles, bath sets.  For a man:  wine, favorite scented cologne, sports bar gift card, sports tickets.  Personalize the gift basket according to whatever fits your special person's personality best.

3. Graphic Tees- Show how much you know about them, get your significant other a great graphic tee with his/her favorite character, saying, or sports team displayed on the front on back.

4. Flowers and Stuffed Animals- Always a good choice for Valentine's Day, especially for your special woman.

5. Engraved Executive Pens- For the career-driven person, an executive pen engraved with their initials is the perfect way to say "I Love You."

6. Message In A Bottle- The ultimate Valentine's Day gift is to receive a love letter from that special someone in your life...a message in a bottle telling them how much they really mean to you.

7. Robes and Slippers- This is the perfect gift for the newlywed couple to give to one another along with a bottle of champagne to celebrate their relationship.

8. Gourmet Chocolates- A heart shaped box of chocolates is a classic Valentine's Day gift for your special person or persons in your life.  Make sure though the chocolates are the best...gourmet.

9. Perfume/Cologne- The perfect perfume can make any girl feel special, so pick out a scent that she will love and you will love to smell on her. And Why not give your man cologne that will make him feel sexy and will keep you coming back for more?

10. Gourmet Coffee- Give the one you love the gift of an aromatic gourmet coffee; or, a coffee house gift card for his morning cup of coffee before heading to work.  Or, give a personalized set of coffee mugs to show just how much you care!

The Perfect Jeans for Your Body

It's too bad that not every outfit will, literally, fit into place as perfectly as those magical jeans that fit all four friends despite their different shapes and sizes in "The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants."  But, don't fret! Finding a pair of perfect Jeans for your body isn't rocket science if you understand what your body assets and challenges are.  Just follow the tips below and you'll find a best-fitting jeans in no time!

If you have a small waist - Having a small waist is an asset. But when you are buying ready-made jeans, you might find a problem with the fitting. Look for a low-rise style that has a waistband that sits on your hips, not on waist, which can prevent gapping. Opt for a style with a waistband that is slightly higher in the back and drops lower in the front.

tastegroup

If you have a flat butt - Look for a lower-rise style with back pockets that sit higher on the butt. This offer s a snugger fit, and the pockets draw the eyes up, giving the butt a visual lift. Or ask for a style with built-in panel in the back, which lifts the butt.

If you have a big butt - Try to look for a style with no additional design on the back pockets. A trouser-cut style with a darker wash will be more comfortable and will give you a slimmer look.

If you have full thighs & hips - Avoid a low-rise style and try to look for a pair of trouser-cut jeans, if you want to have a streamline look. Stay away from skinny jeans and look for relaxed-fit style.

If you have a full tummy - Try to find a style that fastens below the belly button, or look for a dark colored style with built-in tummy control panels in higher-rise --- it'll help remove any unflattering bulges.  Pair it with heels for a slimmer look.

Just remember the dressing ABC:  "Accentuate your body assets, Balance the difference and Camouflage the body challenges."

Pamela Judd, AICI FLC
www.pamelajudd.com

I would like to share information on a social networking training event that may be of interest to our AICI members. As President of the New York Metro Chapter of Association for Psychological Type (APTNYC), and as a member of the NY Tri-State Chapter, I thought many of you would like to know how to incorporate social media into your current marketing strategy and future plans.

Learn how to apply social media into your business, practice, or life.  Learn how to know what is valuable and what is hype.  Attend the Social Media workshop on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, and it will take you through an overview of all forms of social media.  This will take place in NYC from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at 105 East 22nd Street, Room 4A.  The early bird cost (until April 14) and APTNYC member cost $25 and the non-member is $35. The cost after April 14 is $35 for APTNYC members and $45 for nonmembers.  For more information contact me at pam@pamelajudd.com and/or www.aptnyc.org, where you can also register on line.  I am looking forward to seeing you there...Pamela Judd.

Basic Tips ~ Men's Shoes & Pants
Match the Right Shoes with the Right Pants

~ Shoes should be darker than your pants or match them.

~ Socks do not always need to match your shoes. Think of your socks as you would a tie, an item that can pull the outfit together.

~ Belt should match your shoes.

~ When wearing jeans, wear almost any color or style of shoe but avoid very shiny shoes, which are obviously intended for dressy clothing.

~ Boots, sneakers, loafers and sandals all work great with jeans, but consider your shirt style when choosing the shoe.  For example, a sporty, polo shirt might work with a loafer; t-shirts go well with sneakers or retro-style shoes; long, artsy button-down shirts work well with sandals or contemporary styles.

         men's shoes         tastegroup

~ Dockers, chinos, khakis, loafers, oxford and other men's shoes work well with casual pants.

~ Shoes with a shiny finish indicate that the shoe is a dressier shoe, as do less bulky heels and soles.  When wearing dress pants, choose a shoe you would wear with a suit and make sure they are the same color or darker than your pants.

~ Black shoes work well with navy, grey or black pants.

~ Brown shoes work well with tan, brown, beige, green, darker earth tones.

~ Burgundy shoes work well with khaki, lighter browns, blue and grey.

~ Tan shoes look great with lighter earth tones, blue, beige, lighter tan or white.

Job Fair Do's & Don'ts

5 Tips to Get You to Round 2

I was recently invited to help out my esteemed image colleagues, Catherine Schuller and Judith ann Graham at a Job Fair in midtown Manhattan. No, we were not accepting job applications but instead providing image, resume and communication tips for those individuals seeking employment. With a 10% unemployment rate the competition is fierce so it's our mission to help job seekers present a polished and professional image that will get them hired.

I'm writing this blog because to be honest, I was a bit surprised (ok well horrified) at how ill prepared some of these job seekers were. Everything from their attire, body language, and resumes screamed "I am just not into this!"

Attention Job Fair Attendees: It is an interview and a very important one! It is your first contact with the company and could be your last.

1. Turn the cell phone/blackberry OFF and be "present!"
I watched a woman waiting on line to speak with a potential employer, talking loudly on her phone. Not only was she disrupting the others on the line whom were probably trying to mentally prepare themselves for their interview, but she was saying to the potential employer "I have other things to do today." Really? The only thing that you should be communicating to all the employers in that room is "There is nothing more important than being here today and getting hired!"  Read more...
