Why The Butterfly?
We chose the butterfly for our logo because of "The Butterfly Effect." The meaning comes from a 1972 talk given by Edward Lorenz to the American Association for the Advancement of Science describing the chaos theory titled, "Does The Flap Of A Butterfly's Wings In Brazil Set Off A Tornado In Texas." In other words, the ripples of a very small change can make a huge difference down the road. |

Greetings!
It's hard to believe another year has gone by. As we look back at the accomplishments of the individuals we serve this past year, it's exciting to think about where we'll all be going in the coming months. We can't wait to see what 2010 brings for us, our staff and those we serve! In the meantime, make sure you visit our webpage and experience all the changes we're making like: Star Staff, Media page, FaceBook cause page and community opinion polls just to name a few. |

Christmas Cheer to All Thanks to the support from our partners Christ's Church, Waste Not Want Not and Toys for Tots, and your private donations, Henderson Haven was able to bring a little Christmas to those we serve.
Santa and his helpers spent Christmas Eve delivering Christmas packages to Henderson Haven families from Yulee to Green Cove Springs. Helping to spread holiday cheer is something Henderson Haven has been able to do for it's families for three years now with the help of donations from people like you! To see a video montage of the day click here.
All of us at Henderson Haven hope you and yours had a wonderful holiday season! |
Lee Henderson Receives Special Certification
Thanks to a grant from the Reinhold Foundation, Lee Henderson was able to receive his Certification in Nonprofit Management from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. Lee spent most of 2009 attending classes in Orlando in order to obtain this needed certification.
By learning business practices and models specifically molded to the nonprofit sector, Lee will be able to help Henderson Haven move forward in providing the needed advocacy and support services in North Florida.
Henderson Haven wishes to express our gratitude to the Reinhold Foundation for their generous gift and continued support of our mission. | |
Technology Always A Priority
Henderson Haven has always believed technology can assist those we serve as well as assisting our staff in serving them. We're committed to using available technologies as well as developing our own ideas and programs. You'll see several new developments in this area coming this year.
While Henderson Haven already has lending equipment such as communication devices, we're determined to keep pace by adding new advanced devices as they become available. Watch for new and exciting products like the Tango Talk and the Cyrano coming to our lending library in 2010! We also believe in using technology to help our staff and professional partners in providing services and keeping up with training and continued education.
We have already invested in the i>clicker response system for use in our quarterly staff meetings. This system enables staff to give immediate feedback to instruction as well as allow us to receive reports on individual responses to presentation questions. This gives us a record of how each staff person is doing when it comes to learning and growing. And lets face it, that's the first step in providing the best possible services available. We don't stop there. Making information available to others is also important.
Henderson Haven is developing a secure web based network that will make it possible for support coordinators as well as family members to receive service reports faster than ever before. Staff will enter service notes after each shift on a secure network that meets all HIPA requirements. After the notes have been confirmed by management, they will automatically be emailed to the support coordinator and family if they wish. Staff will also be able to use the system to share information about area activities, ideas and solutions for problems they may be encountering or just share a great story about someone making great progress. It's another way Henderson Haven remains second to none when it comes to innovative support services in North Florida. |
STAR STAFF Make a Difference
For a long time now Henderson Haven has honored our staff at our quarterly meetings by choosing someone to recognize as STAR STAFF. Their accomplishment are presented and they receive a special award. Now we're going to share them with you on our web page and in each Butterfly Effect. It's a great way for you to learn about what makes Henderson Haven the best provider in North Florida; OUR STAFF!
Our first STAR STAFF for 2010 is supported living coach Wendy Bayer. You can read more about Wendy and why she was selected as our first quarter Star Staff here! |

Thank you for your continued support in our programs. All of us at Henderson Haven appreciate your belief in our vision of everyone living the life they have chosen for themselves regardless of their perceived abilities.
It takes all of our business partners, volunteers, family members, directors, and of course, our dedicated staff working together to make this vision a reality for everyone in North Florida. It's because of people like you that it's working, and it is.
We're proving that our system can work for anyone and we're even showing that in the long run, our way is cheaper. We can see a future for Florida where segregation is a thing of the past and everyone is able to be a contributing member of their communities.
