Why The Butterfly?
BellSouth
We chose the butterfly for our logo because of "The Butterfly Effect."  The meaning comes from a 1972 talk given by Edward Lorenz to the American Association for the Advancement of Science describing the chaos theory titled, "Does The Flap
Of A Butterfly's Wings In Brazil Set Off A Tornado In Texas."
In other words, the ripples of a very small change can make a huge difference down the road.

AAMSE was established by a group of professionals who came together in March, 2006 at a workshop on multi sensory environments (MSE) in Miami, Florida. Due to an increasing awareness and interest in MSE, the group decided to establish an Association as a way to bring together different disciplines to improve education, research, training and awareness in the use of MSE.

Greetings!

It's been an exciting year for Henderson Haven.  With continued funding cuts and economy issues facing us all, it was a scary year to go in to.  With these challenges facing us, we marched ahead with our plan to have three major fundraising events for 2009.  Not only were all three held, but thanks to you, they were a great success.

Henderson Haven will be able to continue providing the much needed services focusing on community inclusion and not segregated, group services thanks to people like you.  Thank you so much.

All of us at Henderson Haven want to wish you and yours a fantastic Holiday Season and a more than prosperous New Year!
Wine, Lies and Murder make new van possible      New van
Our first annual murder mystery dinner, Wine, Lies and Murder, was our most successful fundraising event to date.  With nearly 200 people in attendance, we were able to share the vision of our mission as well as earn the funds needed to purchase a van with a wheelchair lift so some of those we serve wont be forced to rely on public transportation as their only option when they have appointments or other transportation needs.

Everyone enjoyed attending the "press conference" for the murder of Mr. William Telly Story, enjoyed a three course meal and watched the tale unfold as our local "celebrity" actors  took to the stage.  We want to once again thank those that made the event possible: Sheriff Rick Beseler, Joy Myers, Jim Horne, Vicki Lowe, Cameron Henderson, Michelle White, Jack Morgan, Susan Carcaba and special thanks to Russ Kamradt for his leadership in making it happen.  You can see a video montage of the night here.

There is still time to help us make next year's dinner even better.  Whether you were able to attend or not, we want to hear from you.  Take our survey and let us know what you think.  You could even win a wonderful gift basket just for participating.  You can also catch Susan Carcaba and Cameron Henderson working together again in the Orange Park Community Theater's production of Greetings!

Henderson Haven invites you to come out to the Orange Park Community Theatre and experience Greetings!; directed by Susan Carcaba with Cameron Henderson as Mickey.  Susan directed our first annual Murder Mystery fundraiser, Wine, Lies and Murder, where Cameron played the memorable role of Jack E Gayson.  They are working together again on this production described as a "...joyful holiday lift." by N.Y. Newsday.  This hilarious presentation will hold a special meaning for those with family members living with special needs.

Andy has a sweet Catholic mother, a sour Catholic father and a severely challenged younger brother named Mickey.  When he brings his Jewish atheist fianc to meet the folks on Christmas Eve, his worst fears about family blow ups are realized.  But Mickey, whose entire vocabulary is limited to "oh boy" and "wow," suddenly says "Greetings!" We soon learn an ancient, wise and witty spirit has set upon healing the family, and has borrowed Mickey's body.

While the play will be performed November 13th through December 5th, Orange Park Community Theater will be having a special benefit performance for Henderson Haven on November 19th.  Tickets for this performance are only $15.00 with 100% going to support our mission.  Get your tickets now by using the link below or visit our web site.  Be sure to act soon as seating is limited to 100 and once they are gone, they're gone.

Thank you in advance for your continued support of our organization and we look forward to seeing you at "Greetings!"

Thank you for your continued support in our programs.  All of us at Henderson Haven appreciate your belief in our vision of everyone living the life they have chosen for themselves regardless of their perceived abilities.

It takes all of our business partners, volunteers, family members, directors, and of course, our dedicated staff working together to make this vision a reality for everyone in North Florida.  It's because of people like you that it's working, and it is.

We're proving that our system can work for anyone and we're even showing that in the long run, our way is cheaper.  We can see a future for Florida where segregation is a thing of the past and everyone is able to be a contributing member of their communities.

Sincerely,

Lee Henderson
