Why The Butterfly?
BellSouth
We chose the butterfly for our logo because of "The Butterfly Effect."  The meaning comes from a 1972 talk given by Edward Lorenz to the American Association for the Advancement of Science describing the chaos theory titled, "Does The Flap
Of A Butterfly's Wings In Brazil Set Off A Tornado In Texas."
In other words, the ripples of a very small change can make a huge difference down the road.

Greetings!

As we enter our 6th year in providing the services designed to keep people in the community and out of segregated, group environments, we celebrate our successes and contemplate the actions of our State Legislature.

One can't help but feel as though our leaders are working to take away the choices we have fought to provide and protect, and force people back into the institutional type settings they have finally begun to break free of.  It's these types of actions that make it so important we receive the financial support from the communities we serve.  We've proven our concepts are cheaper in the long run, but have to be able to get them out there.

Please consider Henderson Haven the next time you're looking for a tax deductible donation source.  It's only through these kind supporters that we are able to keep the people we serve out away from those that would take their life choices away.
Henderson Haven Receives Additional Financial Help
Budget cuts As we continue to deal with what seems to be never ending rate reductions, we are please to announce we will now be receiving ongoing funding from Christ's Church as they have taken us on as an official mission for 2009.

Christ's Church has always been a supporter of Henderson Haven's concepts.  In fact, they even take our concepts of non-segregated services to heart by offering their own program of inclusion for worship called Access Junction.

Access Junction is a program where people with special needs are teamed up with a volunteer buddy to accompany them to their peer's worship services.  This concept enables them to take part in the main programs instead of being isolated in an area of their own for worship.  It's the perfect example of the Henderson Haven style of service.

We want to thank Christ's Church for their continued support of our program and for demonstrating their dedication to our vision by walking the walk.  If you have no church home and are looking for a place where your loved one with special needs will be welcomed with open arms, please visit Christ's Church.
HH's Namesake Continues To InspireTrey and
As the inspiration for Henderson Haven, Clayton Lee Henderson III, or Trey, continues to live his life on his terms - proving to others that choice is always better.  Trey never lets his Down syndrome prevent him for attempting anything in life.

Trey's list of accomplishments just seems to keep growing: High school varsity cheer squad, high school mascot, Homecoming King and Eagle Scout just to name a few.  Trey is living proof that with a little help and support from others, we can all accomplish anything.

This attitude continues as he attends The On Campus Transition Program at the University of North Florida.   This new UNF program allows those with with developmental disabilities participate in college without having to be segregated from the their 'normal' peers.  But just attending collage wasn't enough for Trey.

Living off campus in apartment shared with two roommates, Trey is living the typical collage life of microwave eating and late nights of movie watching.  He even wanted to continue his mascoting and tried out for "Harriet", Ozzie the Ospreys sidekick.  He is now the co-mascot of UNF and you can see him perform at many UNF sporting events and other community functions.
Community Events Coming Soon
Choice in Living In working to insure our programs are able to survive the continued rate reductions, Henderson Haven will be hosting several community fundraising events this coming year.  Keep your eyes on your email for upcoming announcements regarding these happenings and how you can participate.

This year's planned events so far include: A Poker Run, Murder Mystery Dinner and Auction and a Golf Tournament hosted by a special celebrity pro-golfer.  Keep watching your email for news and information!
Thank you for your continued support in our programs.  All of us at Henderson Haven appreciate your belief in our vision of everyone living the life they have chosen for themselves regardless of their perceived abilities.

It takes all of our business partners, volunteers, family members, directors, and of course, our dedicated staff working together to make this vision a reality for everyone in North Florida.  It's because of people like you that it's working, and it is.

We're proving that our system can work for anyone and we're even showing that in the long run, our way is cheaper.  We can see a future for Florida where segregation is a thing of the past and everyone is able to be a contributing member of their communities.

Sincerely,

Lee Henderson
