Circle the Date-February 14th Is Arizona's Centennial

by James Cowlin

If you live in Arizona you might have an inkling that something special is about to happen. Yes sir, February 14th is Valentine's Day and we're going to be sending an extra special greeting to our state on its 100th birthday.

For us at the US Route 89 Appreciation Society that means we are going to be doing a couple of programs to highlight the importance of historic US Route 89. Called Arizona's Main Street, my slide show and talk will be held at two of the Maricopa County Libraries on February 14th. Here are the details:

Sun City Branch at 1:30 pm
16828 N. 99th Avenue
Sun City, Arizona 85351
602-652-3000
Google Map

Northwest Regional Branch-Surprise at 6:30 pm
16089 N. Bullard Avenue
Surprise, AZ 85374
602-652-3000

There is no admission charge and they promise to be much less crowded than the hoopla planned for that day at the state capital.

Help Improve the Website
We recently suffered a blackout of the US Route 89 Appreciation Society website. It was off the internet for a week before I discovered that the host/developer had disappeared. I finally tracked him down on Facebook and was able to transfer the site to a new host. For two days I lived in fear and dread that the whole thing was lost. What a relief to have it back up and running faster then ever.

Almost losing the website made me realize that I really haven't done much with the site other than to upload some new photo galleries and add links to special attractions on the Road Trip Guides. The site was designed over four years ago-an eternity on the internet. Since then the content management system I use has gone through two major updates. I am in the process of upgrading to the newest version which will be completed soon.

This got me to thinking that there must be things I can do to make the website more useful. Here is where you can help.

I'd like you to tell me the one thing you would like me to do to improve the website. Don't worry about hurting my feelings. I really want to hear what you have to say. So click here to send me an email. Thanks.
