Road Trip Update-Week 2 Begins
Today we begin the second week of the 2010 Spring Road Trip. We are looking forward to a week of exploring the Colorado Plateau in northern Arizona and southern Utah.

The highlight of the week is a trip to Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, May 29th, with geologist Wayne Ranney. Rainbow Bridge National Monument is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Wayne is going to be lecturing on ancient landscapes of the Southwest on Friday evening at the visitors center at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and then going by boat to Rainbow Bridge to talk with visitors about the geology of the world's largest natural stone arch.

We are also planning to stop at Walnut Canyon National Monument, and spend time in Vermilion Cliffs and Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monuments. Of course, no trip to northern Arizona on US Route 89 would be complete without a drive along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It is going to be a jam packed week of sight seeing and picture taking.

The nicest part of a road trip is the places and people along the way that are unplanned. As you can see on our blog, last week included a few wonderful and unexpected surprises. So keep following the blog for more stories from along US 89.
