The Official US Route 89 Road Trip Map Book
|
|
One of our goals for the US Route 89 project has been to publish a guide book for planning road trips. As a first step, we have compiled the maps and road descriptions from the Road Trip Guides on the website into an e-book. We have also included Wayne Ranney's excellent introductions to the geography and geology found along highway 89. For the modest price of $5, you can download the map book and read it on your computer with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you don't have Acrobat Reader already installed, it is a free program and can be downloaded from the Adobe website.
For a preview look at the Road Trip Map Book, download the cover, table of contents and a sample page with our compliments.

Five Outstanding Scenic Drives on US Route 89
|
|
We've added a new page to the Road Trip Guides on the website with details about five of the most scenic sections of US Route 89. We selected these five because they are outstanding examples of the variety of landscapes along the road and they are fun to drive.
From south to north here are our picks for scenic drives:
Pinal Pioneer Parkway: a 42-mile drive from Oracle Junction north of Tucson to Florence, Arizona, through the Sonoran desert.
Oak Creek Canyon: a 16-mle stretch of historic US 89A from Sedona, Arizona, to Oak Creek Vista that marks the transition from the central mountains to the Colorado Plateau.
Logan Canyon: designated as a National Scenic Byway this 40-mile drive climbs through the Bear River Range in the Rockies between Logan and Garden City, Utah.
Grand Teton National Park: for 45 miles US Route 89 traverses the national park offering spectacular views of the Teton Range in Wyoming.
Kings Hill: this 71-mile Scenic Byway winds along mountain streams in the Little Belt Mountains between White Sulphur Springs and Armington Junction south of Great Falls, Montana.
For complete descriptions of these road trips, visit the Scenic Drives page on the US Route 89 website.
