Barbara and I are going to be heading north on US Route 89 starting on Wednesday, July 29th. We will be making the drive north rather quickly and then taking our time for adventures and meeting people on the way south. The trip will end on August 13th when we return home to Arizona. Here's the schedule we've worked out:

Wednesday 7/29: Oracle to Lee's Ferry, Arizona

Thursday 7/30: Lee's Ferry to Palisade State Park near Sterling, Utah, with a stop in Page

Friday 7/31: Explore the Sanpete Valley: Manti, Ephraim, Spring City, Mount Pleasant, Fairview

Saturday 8/1: Sterling to Alpine, Wyoming

Sunday 8/2: Leaving route 89 to drive to Bigfork, Montana, to visit friends

Monday 8/3 to Sunday 8/9: Explore Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks and places in between ending up in Logan, Utah

Monday 8/10: Logan to Salt Lake City, Utah

Tuesday 8/11: Salt Lake City

Wednesday 8/12: Salt Lake City to Kanab, Utah, where we will celebrate Barbara's birthday with dinner at the Rocking V

Thursday 8/13: Kanab to Oracle

If we are going to cross paths with any of you, let us know. We would love to meet you along the way. You can send an email to Jim or call on his cell phone: 602-944-3286.

We have set several goals for this trip, one of which is to stay in touch with all of you and to share photos, drawings and stories as we travel. We will post photos and stories to our blog. We have started a Facebook group page and both Barbara and I have Twitter accounts. Here are the links:

All of this depends on finding internet connections along the way (no, we don't have iPhones, yet). That's another one of our goals-find the great coffee shops, restaurants or other neat places to get online while traveling highway 89. We'll keep you posted on what we find.

US Route 89 Appreciation SocietyYou love driving the two-lane highways that keep you close to the edge of the road so you can see the land at a leisurely pace. You think nothing of stopping along the way to admire the view and smell the fresh air. You seek out unique places to eat where the special of the day depends on what's in season at the nearby farm. You already appreciate the opportunities offered by a journey on US Route 89.
You are not alone in your passion for a trip on a "slow road." There are many others like you. Together we can spread the word of the joys of leisurely travel. Join the US Route 89 Appreciation Society and you'll receive an official membership certificate and button to attest to your belief in the "slow road" movement.
