May: Change is in the Air
I grew up in Los Angeles spending many days of my childhood at the beach. I would skateboard to the Redondo Pier and watch the street performers for hours not quite realizing that the weather outside of LA was not always as perfect as I was experiencing. By moving to Ohio almost 17 years ago, I have enjoyed thunderstorms, snowstorms, tornados and flash floods sometimes all within the same week. The changes in season have been the best part of Ohio weather for me. As in life, we feel the storm to relish the calm. Spring is so refreshing bringing with it a shift in energy, smell, and spirit. The change seems to give us a chance to once again start over or try something new. We have a lot of new things going on at CZG. One of which is the Speak! At Performance Level™ Speaker Summit coming up in about one month. I am really looking forward to spending two days with 20 participants defining their passion, refining their speaking skills and message. We have a few spots left and would love to have you join us. This summit will help you take your speaking skills to the next level. Warm days are coming and the days are longer—make sure to stop and enjoy. Have a great spring!

Around the Office
We are very excited to welcome Jocelyn Sweeden to CZG. She joins our team as marketing specialist and office coordinator. All the way from the Sooner State, she graduated with honors from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, majoring in mass communications and minoring in Spanish. After living in Oklahoma her entire life eating fried okra and brisket, she made a big change and moved to Ohio. Jocelyn will be helping to get the word out about Curtis and his inspiring programs, as well as coordinating his busy travel plans.

Try something new
Stop demonstrating what you already know! Everyone has something in their life that they would like to improve on or change. By rewriting "old scripts" you can make a positive change in your life that will allow you to grow. What actionable steps are you willing to take in order to create positive change?

Changing your daily routine?
Changing your outlook ?
Changing your choices?
How would you like your life to be different one year from today?
What's the one thing in your life you have wanted to change but haven't?
What is holding you back?
What are you giving up by not changing?
Are you living life habitual or experiential?

You're spending a lifetime to write this masterpiece you call your life. Give yourself time to change. Did you know that Ray Kroc was selling milkshake machines at 52 years of age when he made a change and officially started McDonald's. Change can bring with it some uneasiness but don't let that stop you from trying something new. Start small. You might not get it right the first time, or even the second or third, but you will be one try closer to achieving the goal you have set for yourself.

Today: change one thing in your daily routine: your route to or from work, where you go to lunch, or how you spend your evening.
This week: Turn off the TV and pick up a good book.
This month: Spend twenty minutes each day in quiet contemplation to think about the changes you would like to create in your life. Don't just think about it- do it. Don't just wait for change to happen- create it!

Start small:
• try a new hairstyle
• try a new restaurant
• commit to listening more
• smile more at strangers
For a bigger challenge:
• change your eating habits
• take a dance class
• start a work-out routine
• plan the vacation you've been putting off
• stop smoking
• call an old friend you've lost touch with

Start today and give yourself 5,000 tries to make a positive change in your life and write your masterpiece!

A friend and colleague of mine, Jud Laipply speaks nationwide on the topic of change. His video clip, "Evolution of Dance," taped at one of his speaking engagements, has been history’s most viewed video on YouTube. Jud speaks about creating the life you want, by understanding the simple idea that life is change. His combination of a nerdy-guy persona and his hot dance steps show the change of dance from the 1950s to now. The video is six minutes of hilarious fun!

Since your training, there have been wonderful changes. Last year the moral was very, very low and people weren't always very nice to each other. After the inspirational day spent with you it's like working in a different place, people are helping each other out and really being nice to each other. Your story was very moving to me. I grew up in the housing projects as a child, in a single parent home. I married right out of high school and had a baby, then two years later became a divorced parent myself. I entered "the airport" when I registered my son for Head Start and started to soar to new heights when the teachers inspired me to believe in myself. The following year, I was hired as an assistant and have 24 years in the school system. I "live in the airport" everyday in my work life and personal life.

I can truly say that you have changed my life. Your words were so powerful and really helped put everything into perspective. It was so meaningful to hear that no matter what your background is, you can do great things and change someone's life. Especially since I'm planning on becoming a high school teacher, I can't wait to share your thoughts and words of wisdoms with my students. It was important to hear that it's okay to drop the ball. That I should just try my best, and that's all anyone can ask. I'm sure you hear this every day, but you changed a life today. I hope that I can do the same for someone else, and pass along what I learned tonight. Thank you so much for speaking and also for helping re-write my script. I can promise you I will never again say that I'm doing "good", because I'm not. I'm officially "living the dream"!
