While we still have two weeks of Advent to contemplate and make way for celebrating the Nativity of our Lord, the MLNNA Leadership Council wishes you and yours a truly Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Exciting things continue to unfold as we see collaboration and leadership take on new faces and structures, some of which are featured in the write-up from the Marianist Family Council of North America.

And there's more to come. The MLNNA Leadership Council met in Dayton in early October. On the agenda were questions of purpose and identity for the continental organization and what it means to be a "community of communities." The MLNNA is entering into a significant visioning and strategic planning project which will begin with an engagement of communities and lay Marianists in various listening sessions. More information will be forthcoming.

Marianist Family Council of North America

The Marianist Family Council of North America is composed of the two top ranking members of each  of the three branches of the Marianist Family present in North America.  Current council membership is Father Marty Solma SM and Brother Joe Kamis SM for the Society of Mary; Sister Gretchen Trautman FMI and Sister Laura Lemming FMI for the Marianist Sisters and Rudy Reyes and Kay Stone for the Marianist Lay Network of North America.

The council meets face to face each year in November and also has a conference call mid year, usually in March.  Both the Marianist Social Justice Collaborative and the Marianist Lay Formation Initiative, both funded jointly by all three branches of the Marianist family, report to the council at these meetings. The newly formed Northeast Regional Family Council also began reporting at the November meeting.  Other matters of joint concern are discussed as well as each branch updating the other two on their current status, successes and concerns.

Nativity Scene

For those in Ohio, close-by, or able to travel, consider visiting Dayton and stopping by the Marian Library/International Marian Institute's "At the Manger" exhibit on UD's campus from the Saturday after Thanksgiving through January 29th. The collection includes thousands of portrayals of the birth of Christ and each year hundreds of these diverse scenes are able to be viewed by the public. Click HERE for more information.

Video Christmas

You get a double treat (of different styles) this month because I couldn't decide between some cool videos I've seen. Here they are:

Breath of Heaven, as interpreted in dance

Sara Groves -
Sara Groves - "Breath of Heaven"
and by complete contrast an indy-rock version of The Little Drummer Boy, from Winnipeg, Canada (thanks to Isabella Moyer who says the video includes many scenes from the St. Boniface area of Winnipeg - familiar stomping grounds of the Marianists)

Sean Quigley - Little Drummer Boy

A Parting Thought

Mary, inspired by your readiness
to accept all that God would work in you,
we offer you our hearts and lives
so that we too
might bring forth into our world
Jesus, the Savior.
May we be humble and compassionate
and come to say as you did,
"Behold the servant of the Lord." Amen
