Blessed Marianist Martyrs of Madrid
Father Miguel Libar and Brothers Florencio Arniz, Sabino Ayastuy and Joaqun Ochoa were members of the Society of Mary in Spain at the time of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. All were killed for their faith, all are martyrs, and all were beatified by Pope Benedict XVI. Today marks the Memorial Day of these Blessed Marianist Martyrs of Madrid.
Very few of us will be called on to shed blood for God in the way these men have. Yet, all of us are called to give our life for God.
The simple word "yes" may not seem like much when we are asked to do a simple favor, when we face some small inconvenience or when we agree to being part of a community. Certainly we are called to those simple "yeses," but the real "yes" we are called to involves much more. Not necessarily dying, but living. Living our entire life like Mary did with a whole heart, a whole mind and a whole soul dedicated to loving God.
peace and love, aj
