MARIANIST REFLECTION October 2008

NICE GUY AWARD
Annette Wasno is a Lay Marianist from Beltsville, Maryland. She was recently named runner-up for an award given by Acacia Federal Savings Bank. It's called the "Nice Guy Award." Here's what they said about Annette.
Annette brings friendship and hope to disabled foster children at Second Chance hospice and group home. She plays with them, reads to them ... even decorates their rooms so they'll have fresh, fun surroundings. She has served as their advocate and has inspired groups such as CASA to recruit other volunteer visitors. Thanks to Annette, children with serious conditions such as cerebral palsy and scoliosis are showing improved development - and enjoying a better quality of life.
And here's what Annette said.
I decided to volunteer for CASA of Prince George's County when I realized I wasn't putting my beliefs into action. CASA volunteers are advocates for neglected children; we're there to recommend services they need and spend time with them too. So I'm able to give support to those who need it most. As a bonus, it's fun! The kids I visit have so little, and as their disabilities get worse and worse they have less and less. I'm glad to be able to do something that will enrich their lives.
"Beliefs into action," is another way of "Saying Yes."
peace and love, aj
