Over the past several months many of our customers and brokers have asked us to share our opinion on Captive Insurance. Even though Captive Insurance options have been available to the transportation industry for several decades, the moving and storage industry is experiencing an influx of captive options on a national basis. Captive insurance programs can provide an excellent opportunity for a moving company to share in the profits for years that experience good claims, however, most moving and storage companies are not being given all the actuarial facts to make an educated decision on what is best for their company when making this important insurance decision. In today’s challenging economy, moving and storage companies must carefully consider all expenses that affect their bottom line. Insurance is a major expense and, naturally, a big indicator to the bottom line profit of a company. While captive insurance programs can provide potential additional revenues and reduced insurance cost, they do not come without significant financial risk. Entering into a captive is a long term decision to form and manage your own insurance company, often times at the expense of long term capital that may be more wisely invested in the industry you know best – moving and storage. To help our customers and brokers understand all the facts about captive insurance programs we have developed a free informational guide and video. You can obtain this information by clicking on the links provided below. Also, in today’s newsletter you will find articles on: - Changes in the Zurich Direct Bill Plan
- Zurich Risk Engineering – Transportation Safety Solutions
- How to Prepare for a Hurricane
Our company’s mission is to continue to dedicate ourselves to providing the best insurance products and services to the moving and storage industry while supporting your efforts to service our joint customers. Paul Hanson Partners simply would not be here without you so please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at lisapaul@paulhanson.com.
Sincerely,

Lisa R. Paul, CPCU President, CEO

Qualified accounts are offered a direct bill option through Movers Choice. Over the past several months we have been working with Zurich to improve the direct bill payment options. We are dedicated to providing excellent customer service and we have listened to our brokers and customers, and felt a change in the billing of Zurich direct bill was necessary. - Included with our Zurich Direct bill will be the actual copy of the endorsement that is referenced in the billing for better ease of tracking.
- We have implemented a policy change on how endorsements are billed through the direct bill plan. If an endorsement is over 10% of the policies original premium we will have direct bill spread the endorsement over the remaining installments. If the endorsement is less than 10% of the original premium we will have Zurich direct bill invoice this in full on the next billing cycle.
We feel that these two process improvements will not only make it easier to read and understand the invoicing provided by Zurich Direct Bill but will also provide a more efficient and timely accounting of endorsements processed. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Dawn Johnson atdawnj@paulhanson.com
