Note: Dan Lewis, owner and chief numismatist at Black Mountain Coins, was in Tuscany with his wife on Friday the 13th of January this year, hours away from boarding the cruise ship, Costa Concordia. News came in the morning that the ship had struck rocks off Giglio, Italy. To date the horrible and controversial wreck is known to have claimed the lives of 15 while 17  remain missing. While we are grateful for Dan's fortune in not having yet boarded the Costa Concordia our hearts go out to all who have suffered and to the families of those who were lost in this terrible disaster. The nearness of it in our own hearts and minds is what has kept the subject of ships lost at sea foremost. We share here some of the reminders that we have found here in our shop - so far from the sea.
