Definition: the collection of old financial documents, such as stock and bond certificates. Scripophily is a specific subset of numismatics. Some collectors look for certificates that are rare, old, and valuable, while others may focus on ones that are unique and interesting. Many certificates that are from the early days of a specific industry are of particular interest, and signed certificates tend to increase value.
Etymology: Latin scriptum 'thing written'.
Root: scrip.
