Community News

Thank you, Jeff Christensen!

Jeff

This Summer, Jeff has blessed us in so many ways by doing many fix-it projects at the HUB (church office)!  The outside has been painted and there are now motion sensors for lighting for the front of the house.  He also has helped with moving and other projects to help others this summer.  Jeff- We appreciate all that you do to serve our community!

We are excited for Ashley and Scott Byers who are going through the process of adoption! One way to support Scott and Ashley in their adoption process is to participate in their t-shirt fundraiser.  Visit http://store.wildolivetees.com/adoption-fundraiser-tees-c6.aspx, and enter the family code BYERS0722.  The Byers will receive a significant portion of each shirt sold, so check it out! You can also visit their blog for updates, http://www.byers05.blogspot.com/

Love and Care for One Another

This summer, our challenge from Nate is to move forward and grow in the area of loving and caring for one another.  Ask God to show you where you can care for others this summer.

         Love Each Other

Continue to pray for families in our community that are struggling financially and still looking for employment.

Jacob Lohner is doing much better this week! He has gained 3 lbs and continues to do better all around now that he is eating regularly and no longer feeling nauseated.  Thank you for your faithful prayers! The family was able to get out yesterday and walk on the Golden Gate Bridge and even got to go to the beach for awhile.  Jacob and his mom are both feeling hopeful and planning to come home to Lincoln next week!  Continue to pray for increased health and good blood counts. Please pray for David Hordyk's healing.  David has just been admitted to the hospital in Baltimore where he will hopefully have surgery for his stomach cancer on Friday.  Doctors are doing a CT scan on Tuesday to check on the current situation in his stomach.  Please pray for the scan to reveal a change in the tumor and that David will be able to have the surgery!  To keep current on David's journey, click on this link to go to his blog:  http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/davidhordyk/journal

BBQ at Virginiatown to Welcome Back the Oates- This Sunday!

This Sunday, September 4th, the Oates family will be back at Emmaus for the first time since their 3 month sabbatical!  Immediately after the gathering, we will have a BBQ at the Emmaus Virginiatown property (1389 Virginiatown Rd, Lincoln) so we can spend time with them as they transition back into the community. The property is perfect for a fun day together with lots of trees for shade and space for kids to play.  We will have a waterslide/bouncehouse and other games for kids.  Bring chairs or blankets for you and your family.  There will be lots of BBQ chicken and drinks will be provided as well.  Here is what you can bring to share!

Please bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share according to the first letter of your last name:

A-J: salad

K-R: dessert

S-Z: side dish

How Do I Get Involved at Emmaus?

   serve

There are many opportunities to get involved and serve others at Emmaus!  Below is a list of a few of the areas where you can be involved:

Greeters: Come help greet on Sunday mornings and meet lots of people! The team members serve 2 weeks every other month.  For more information contact Dwana Wells: 916.434.8203

Information Table: Set up and serve at two tables.  One is the Information Table with the message cds, handouts and other materials; the second is the Book Table in the foyer with suggested books for purchase recommended by the Emmaus Staff.  Each member serves once a month, with Sandie and/or Jean assisting as needed. For more information, contact Jean Kocher jbk007@sbcglobal.net 916.580.9278

Ushers: Our team of Ushers greet people as they enter the worship gathering on Sunday mornings and ensure they find a seat.  During the gathering the Ushers pass out Bibles and notes pages and take the offering.  If you are interested in serving once or twice a month on this team, contact Ryan Beidler:ryan.beidler@gmail.com or 916.303.0892

Emmaus Kids:Team members serve once or twice a month caring for our community's kids and shepherding them to be worshippers of God.
Please consider serving on the Setup Team, creating kids' worship
spaces each week; as a Check-in Greeter, welcoming and familiarizing
families with our ministry at sign-in; or as a Teacher or Helper in
any of our three Emmaus Kids' spaces: Nursery (0-3yrs), 3-6yrs Class,
7-12yrs Class.  For more information contact Kathryn Christenson at
707.294.7732
