How bar code scanning can increase the efficiency of your cleaning regime and improve security.

Bar code

NJC utilise the latest bar code scanning and mobile data capture systems to improve security and increase the efficiency of the cleaning regime.

Identity card

How does it work?

NJC staff are provided with PDA's which incorporate a bar code scanner. They also have an identity photocard with its own unique bar code.

NJC agree the frequency of cleaning tasks with the customer which creates job schedules for the cleaning operative. They are uploaded direct to the PDA when the operative scans in.

Bar code tags are placed at strategic locations (i.e. the entrance to washrooms, on litter bins, reception doors etc.) The operative will scan the bar code prior to starting the touring job and again on completion. This provides critical management data regarding task frequencies, task duration and security
. It also has the additional benefit of monitoring start and finish time of the cleaning staff.

PDA

NJC managers use this data to organise the available resources to achieve maximum efficiency from the cleaning regime. It also provides easy to follow job schedules for cleaning staff to ensure that nothing is missed.

The information gathered is downloaded in real time to the online service desk and document management system which monitors KPI's and SLA's.

How do you know if your cleaners have been properly trained?

Well trained operatives are the key to successful cleaning. Without good training, consistently high standards will not be achieved.

Training

Your cleaning contractor should carry out thorough training on cleaning methods, product use and health and safety with all staff.  But how can you be sure that this training is being carried out?

NJC's online service desk and document management system shows all staff that work in the premises together with their specific training records. This information can be viewed online at the click of your mouse. Being able to view this information will give you peace of mind that all cleaning operatives are being trained for specific tasks to the required levels, which will provide high standards of cleaning and compliance.

Training records

How slippery are your floors?

NJC provide slipperiness test reports to assess the risk of slipping for all hard floors after deep cleaning.
Slip
Slipping and tripping is the biggest cause of accidents in the workplace. These accidents often lead to more serious problems and most are preventable. Hard floors should be checked on a regular basis, especially after hard floor deep cleaning maintenance. The effectiveness of the cleaning regime can be monitored and this will let you know when it is time for a deep clean, an anti-slip treatment or a new floor.

Slip Alert
NJC carry out floor slipperiness testing using the SlipAlert indicator to assess whether the floor is safe.  SlipAlert has been designed specifically to  correlate with the TRL Pendulum, the UK's 'Gold Standard' and the only slip resistance tester described in the British Standards.  Four S rubber (hard shoe heel rubber) as specified in BS7976 is used for the test. SlipAlert testing complies with the Health & Safety Executive UK slip resistance guidelines. The test is carried out 3 times and the mean value of the reading is calculated.

BIFM GPGBIFM Good Practice Guide to Procuring and Running Cleaning Contracts (written by NJC)

The guide explains good practice in the procurement, delivery and management of cleaning service contracts.

Author of the GPG and Director of NJC Reuben Heppelthwaite commented at the TWM exhibition, "The Guide itself went through three drafts and now that it's been published, we are really pleased with the positive feedback it's received. More importantly, we are sure that it will prove to be a useful industry manual for anyone involved in the commercial cleaning process."
