Industry's Commitment to Sustainable Cleaning
The cleaning products industry has set standards for sustainability development for all aspects of their products with the new voluntary Charter for Sustainable Cleaning.
The Charter, coordinated across the entire European Union by the European Cleaning Products Industry Association (AISE) is a voluntary initiative by cleaning products manufacturers, aiming to promote and demonstrate continual improvement in the Industry's sustainability profile, at all stages in the product life cycle.
The Charter is a guarantee for consumers and professional users that the product has been manufactured by a company giving priority to further reducing environmental impact and ensuring people's safety, and to addressing other aspects of sustainability, without compromising product performance.

The importance of staff training in the cleaning industry.
Well trained cleaning staff are of paramount importance. Without it consistently high standards will not be achieved. Moreover, compliance with health and safety, security, fire precautions and other site rules will not be attained.
It is essential that Managers and Supervisors are trained how to manage and motivate their team of subordinates to get the best from them and increase staff retention. In addition, training must be given on how to deal with difficult staff, poor performance, disciplinary and grievance procedures and other employment issues.
All cleaning staff should be thoroughly trained on cleaning methodology, product use and equipment use for best results. Poor cleaning outcomes and expensive damage to surfaces and finishes can be caused by the use of the wrong chemicals. Health and safety training must be undertaken and will include COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), manual handling, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including appropriate footwear, warning signage, electrical appliances etc.
All staff should be fully briefed on fire precautions and evacuation procedures in the event of fire in the premises. This will include pointing out the importance of signing in/out (not just for a record of attendance and time keeping!) In addition, any other site specific rules and security issues must be addressed. Staff should be made aware of the importance of wearing their staff uniform and i.d. badges at all times for security reasons.
Training staff properly costs money. Ensure that your chosen cleaning service provider has allocated sufficient funds within their budget to ensure well trained competent cleaning staff.

Are you in the 'Honeymoon Period'?
Imagine that you have managed to find a cleaning contractor from the 9500 operating in the UK, that you are happy with. You have been working with them for a few months and it looks like you made the right decision. The feedback from the company staff or tenants is good and everything is going just fine. If this is where you are, then you are in the 'Honeymoon Period' with your cleaning service provider.
Perhaps it's only natural that the more comfortable and familiar your cleaning contractor becomes, the more complacent they are likely to be. The challenge is to adopt a strategy for performance measurement that will add value to the contract, maintain good standards of cleaning and enable your chosen cleaning service provider to avoid complacency.
NJC has developed a process to self manage quality and measure performance to ensure optimum and consistent operation of the service throughout the whole of the contract term - with no complacency guaranteed!
