Septemeber 2011

Dear (Contact First Name), merr head 8-2011

So, to be honest, I usually just "copy" an older newsletter to make each new one.  Sure, I change colors, put in different articles, etc... but I copy the format.  Well, I chose the June Newsletter to copy for September, and it started out with "Look's like Summer's coming early this year."  Little did I (or anyone) know what we were in for.  The Farmer's Almanac didn't even hint at what was to come.

As I am writing this, the weather forecast is showing upper 90's for next week instead of 100's.  If we could have 2-3 days without hitting the century mark, it may be the first time since I sent that e-mail in June!  Oh, you don't even know how much I would love to be writing "Looks like Fall is coming early this year".   I did hear from an old farming friend yesterday that this fall will be more "normal" and that we may even get more rain than we want.  I want a lot of rain, so that's a bit hard to believe.

But I digress.  September is generally when we at TGO start to restock for fall planting.  Herbs and veggies arrive, as do trees and shrubs.  We'll talk about when you can start that fall planting and some other September To-Do items.  Jill checks in from her veggie garden and a quick reminder that Labor Day weekend is Pottery Sale weekend!

Good luck, fearless gardeners, stay cool!

Once Again, It's Pottery Sale Time!!!

pottery sale
Labor Day weekend is opportunity #2 to take advantage of Great Outdoors semi-annual Pottery Sale!  As always, all pottery will be on sale at least 20% off.  Selected styles will be discounted to 40%, 50%, or even 75% off their original price.  When you start with THE BEST Pottery prices in Austin, then add the discounts, this is a sale not to be missed!
And while we're at it, let's go ahead and put plants on sale too!!!  Almost all plants will be 25% off (Herbs, veggies, and houseplants excluded).
Sales starts Thursday Sept. 1st through Wednesday Sept. 7th.

Also, we are excited to offer a pre-booking discount on some of our favorite fountains!  Place and pay for your order of a Campania International statuary piece by October 10th, for delivery in February, and get 20% off the regular price.  Go to Campania's website to see what options are available.  If you see something that strikes your fancy, send us an inquiry for pricing.  If all is well, you pay now and get your piece in February.   This offer is limited to new orders from Campania International only.

September Gardening To-Do's

September is (usually) a time of change in the garden.  Temperatures begin to cool, days begin to shorten, and the garden begins to transform.  That makes September a relatively important To-Do month.  Click here to see our full September To-Do list.

When can we start "Fall Planting"???

With the severity of this summer, we are all ready to get back in the yard and make it look beautiful again.  "When can I start planting?" has become a daily question we are getting in the nursery.  I have put together a short article explaining what to look for and a few other pointers when you do finally get out there again.   More info here.

The Fall Veggie Garden

Normally, September is the time to get the fall veggie garden going.  But the recent heat and drought have some people wondering if there is anything to do out there.

One of the coolest things Jill brings up is the Garden Planner from Mother Earth News.  Click here for a direct link to their awesome new online tool.
