Greetings!

Not a bad Summer huh!?!  I know it is still pretty warm, but it's a far cry from last years record heat and drought. Merrideth
My only complaint, too much mowing!  With all these showers, my grass is growing like wild.  Other wise, the garden looks pretty darn good for August, especially since it takes an act of Congress to get me out to water.

All this rain has lead to a bit of a mosquito infestation however.  Read below to find some tips on mosquito control for your yard.  Also, we want to say a hearty WELCOME to Jeanie's Java.  The Garden District is gone, but Jeanie is doing an awesome job and is really enthusiastic.  She is very open to suggestions, so stop by and let her know what you like.  Finally, summer is always when the insect problems seem to really "bloom".  I have put together a quick article on how to properly apply insecticides, disease controls, and fertilizers to your plants.

Thanks for continuing to think of Great Outdoors for your gardening needs.  We really do love getting to know our guests and helping them be better gardeners.

Good gardens to you all!
Mosquito Control
mosquitoWith all the rain we've gotten recently, mosquitoes are on the prowl.
These annoying pests can make being outdoors nearly unbearable for some, but what can you do?  Click the link below to read my full article on Mosquito Control from our web articles.

Jeanie's Java at The Great Outdoors

The Great Outdoors is glad to welcome Jeanie's Java to our coffee shop space.  Jen and Ryan of Garden District have decided to give up this location to focus on their other shop Cherrywood Coffeehouse and to try and have a life (can't blame them for that.)  So now it has re-opened as Jeanie's Java.  Jeanie has a true passion for coffee and I've really enjoyed the cups I've had so far.  I'm just a drip coffee guy, but the sparkly new espresso machine looks ready, willing, and able to produce a great latte, espresso, or other caffeinated creation.  She is also offering fresh fruit smoothies and and sandwiches from Green Cart.

When we tell you "Oh, just spray some orange oil on that", I think we often assume you know what we are talking about.  This quick article will cover the proper application methods for different sprayer types and a few other pointers.

Thanks again for reading.  Be sure to watch for me on Fox7 news every Thursday around 9:45 am.  If you have any questions you might want answered on the air or ideas for a segment, I am always on the lookout for more (four spots a month can be a lot to think of).  Miss a spot, don't worry!  I try to post them on our website as soon as I can afterward.  In addition to the articles on our website, we post to Facebook and Blogger as often as possible.  Check them out!
Sincerely,
