AssalamuAlaikum and Greetings –

Today, one of the topics of discussions in all circles, Muslims or non-Muslims, is about the mind boggling mayhem and destruction of Iraq. Matters in and around Baghdad have deteriorated to such an extent that mothers, fathers, and children are massacred in front of each other with little relief coming from authorities. Unfortunately, such heinous and inhumane acts have caused some of the western media outlets spewing about the uncivilized mentality of the people of Iraq.

Little some of them know however that Baghdad of the present day Iraq, at one time was not only the cultural capitals of the world but also produced intellectual work that provided the foundation of many sciences studied today. We know for example that "House of Wisdom" in Baghdad was the center of all research and that period of advancement under the Abbassid rule was termed as the Golden Age.

For a change, the article below summarizes some of the "Good Times" of Baghdad that today may have been forgotten or not discussed much, but should provide everyone the hope and encouragement to strive for betterment of conditions in that great city. May be one day, Baghdad will rise again to parallel the standards that it set a few centuries ago.
