Steve Woodall is leaving the San Francisco Center for the Book to go to Chicago to become the Director of the Columbia College Center for Book and Paper Arts.
A going-away party will be held at SFCB, 300 DeHaro Street, San Franscisco, on Wednesday, October 22, at 6 pm. (415) 565-0545.
Steve Woodall was essential to the creation of Another Room Book Arts Bookstore. Steve made introductions, endorsed the store, gave invaluable advice, and was unlimited in enthusiasm. Another Room Book Arts Bookstore, now Another Room Book Arts, would not have begun without his help. Thank you, Steve!
Steve has the gift of generosity; a limitless knowledge of book arts, book artists, and general fine art; an open mind; and tact. You never hear an unkind word from Steve.
While my husband Ed and I were walking our dog Rusty the other day, we made up a haiku about Steve:
Describe Steve Woodall? Only one way to put it -- Irreplaceable.
Good luck, and many many good wishes!

Andrew Morrison
Book Artist
Andrew Morrison, of Gloucestershire, England, founded the Art School Press at Stroud College in '02 and is currently
setting up a press and printmaking workshop at Frith Wood,
Gloucestershire.
"Gradually, books have become my major concern; combining interests in
print, typography and narrative poetry, and a preference for the
intimate and revelatory slow turn of the page over the capacious arena
of the gallery. I believe in the artist having control over each
element of book production; that the author should also be typesetter
and binder."

Alex Appella
Transient Books
 Temptations of the Frijolera Pot
Alex Appella, originally from Oregon, is a writer and book artist. Alex began
binding her written words on a boat in Alaska, with the idea that
original literature should be accessible, both for the writer and for
the reader. After traveling halfway around the world with a
mini-bookbinding workshop on her back (including a typewriter), and
selling her artists' books on the streets and plazas of Latin America,
Alex now writes and binds from her home in Argentina.
Her husband,Magu Appella, originally from Córdoba, Argentina, is a singer, musician and composer -- beside being a bookbinder.
