Notre Dame Prep hires alum as men's varsity basketball coach
Whitney Robinson '98 (NDHS)
Notre Dame Prep's athletic department has hired Whitney Robinson as the new men's varsity basketball coach. Robinson is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods ('98) and Central Michigan University ('03).
He comes to Notre Dame after four years as a basketball coach at Walled Lake Central High School in Walled Lake, Mich. Prior to this coaching experience, he was the coordinator and director of the Whitney Robinson Basketball Camps and assistant coach for Providence Boys and Girls AAU Basketball.
"I'm very excited to be the new coach at NDP," said Robinson. "I fell in love with NDP instantly! The campus is amazing...likewise are the faculty, staff and student body. My high school years at NDHS (Harper Woods) were seriously some of the best years of my life! And I'm looking forward to duplicating those sentiments for the current and future student-athletes at NDP."

ND Alumni Association welcomes newest members at senior barbeque
The alumni association officially welcomed its newest members, from the Notre Dame Prep class of 2012, by hosting a celebratory barbeque on May 15 at the Pontiac campus. 159 seniors along with faculty and staff were in attendance on a sunny afternoon outdoors.
The senior barbeque is a long-held tradition at Notre Dame. In recent years the alumni association began hosting catered barbeque events for the graduating classes.
Members of the class of 2012 were addressed by director of alumni relations, Rachel (Alexander) Miller '00 (NDP), and guest speaker Harold Rutila '11 (NDP), who attends Purdue University.
Special thanks to Victoria Sidor '01 (NDP) for her efforts in organizing the event! Visit our Facebook page to view more photos from the barbeque. |
Coulier wows at NDP's benefit for scholarship fund

TV and comedy star Dave Coulier returned to Michigan recently to headline a benefit show at Notre Dame in Pontiac.
Coulier, 53, a 1977 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, performed a hilarious and crowd-pleasing comedy routine on May 12 in front of a packed cafetorium on NDPMA's Pontiac campus. The night opened with a set of standards performed by the Notre Dame Prep Jazz band. More than 450 were in attendance.
Proceeds from the benefit, which was sponsored by the Notre Dame Alumni Association, go to the Fr. John Bryson, s.m., Memorial Scholarship Fund. Fr. Bryson, who died in May of 2011, was a Marist priest who dedicated almost the entirety of his ministry to students at Notre Dame High School.
Sporting his old ND varsity hockey jersey at the show, Coulier reminisced about Bryson and talked about how he was delighted to help with raising scholarship money in Fr. Bryson's name. Full Story

Super Raffle - Chance to win $50,000
Tickets mailing to alumni homes in June
The main fundraiser for the Notre Dame Prep Parents Club is the $50,000 Grand Prize Super Raffle. Raffle tickets will be mailed in June to alumni who graduated more than five years ago. Based on feedback from some of our younger alumni, tickets will not be mailed to recent graduates but are available for purchase by calling the advancement office at 248.373.2171 ext. 2. Tickets are $10.00 each and can be purchased through mid-September.
The funds raised cover the expenses of more than 50 Parents Club activities and return more than $150,000 to the school each year. The Super Raffle is the result of a consolidation of many previous fundraisers held at the school. The Super Raffle culminates with a community-wide Oktoberfest-Irish Style celebration designed to thank parents for their efforts in fulfilling their raffle ticket obligation and bring the community together in a fun, positive manner. |

ND Prep graduates its 2012 class, new record in scholarships

On May 20, 2012, Notre Dame Prep's Class of 2012 received their diplomas, marking the completion of a high school career. But perhaps more importantly, it signals that these young men and women of Notre Dame are about as fully prepared as any for the next phase of their academic careers - and for life.
Many colleges and universities will welcome Notre Dame's Class of 2012 in the fall, including the University of Michigan, which is enrolling 24 graduates from NDP.
To date, nearly $13 million in college and university scholarships and grants have been offered to the class, which numbers 159. This is a record amount in total for the school and the $80,000+ per-student average exceeds the per-student average of 17 previous NDP graduating classes.
Also, this year's graduating class logged more than 20,000 hours in community service - once again proving that besides turning out academic scholars, Notre Dame continues to graduate "Christian people and upright citizens." Full Story

Notre Dame Annual Fund
It's not too late to support the Notre Dame Annual Fund this fiscal year, which closes in just a few weeks, on June 30. It's been a record-breaking campaign, both in terms of dollars raised from alumni and in the number of alumni participating. We are truly grateful for all the support we've received.
We are happy to report that we have donors from nearly every class of the two Notre Dame schools we represent (the High School and the Prep). Because of this, for the first time the NDPMA Annual Report, which will be published in the fall, will list alumni donors from NDHS and NDP by class year.
Will the number of donors in your class be the highest? You can be the one to make that happen. If you haven't yet made a gift, or would like to make an additional gift, please click here.
If you have any questions about the Notre Dame Annual Fund, please click here or contact our Annual Fund Director, Frank Castronova '89 (NDHS) at 248-373-2171 ext. 5 or fcastronova@ndpma.org. |
