The CCTS is announcing the launch of its new blog about the research study experience, Study Notes, that is designed to help people understand what it is like, and what it means, to participate in clinical research.
Contributions have been posted from a variety of perspectives, including experienced researchers, study coordinators, and clinical research study volunteers.

The OSU CCTS and UK CCTS Joint Pilot Award Announcement
Joint Pilot Awardees Announced.
The OSU CCTS and the UK CCTS have selected Lin Yang, PhD and Kun Huang, PhD as the recipients of the 2012 Community Engagement Joint Pilot Award.
Congratulations to Dr. Kun Huang Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Informatics, College of Medicine at The Ohio State University and to Dr. Lin Yang, PhD Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Informatics, College of Public Health at University of Kentucky.

REDCap has been upgraded to Version 4.8.19 The REDCap upgrade contains several updates.
This upgrade contains several bug fixes including incorrect functionality associated with the use of checkboxes affecting the triggering of calculated fields and execution of branching logic, errors when expanding 2-digit years to 4-digit values, extraneous "Erase value..." prompts on data collection forms and incorrect calculation of space used on the Projects Statistics tables. PACT/NHLBI to Present Webinar on "Protecting Patients from Harm"
PACT webinar to cover Clinical Unproven Stem Cell Interventions.
Join PACT/NHLBI as they present "Protecting Patients from Harm - Ethical, Legal & Policy Responses to Domestice and International Marketing of Clinically Unproven Stem Cell Interventions." The webinar will be held Thursday September 27, 2012 from 12:00 p.m.-1:15 p.m.
The OSU Center for Regenerative Medicine, the OSUCCC James Cancer Hospital Cell Therapy Laboratory, and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science are the local hosts for the program which will be aired in 234 Meiling Hall, 370 West 9th Avenue.

Christopher P. Austin new director for the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences starting Sept. 23, 2012.
Christopher Austin will lead the new Discovering New Therapeutic Uses for Existing Molecules and Tissue Chip for Drug Screening initiatives. Along with other responsibilities, Austin will lead other research efforts to improve the overall efficiency of translational research.
Austin joined NIH in 2002 where he served as the senior advisor to the director for translational research at the National Human Genome Research Institute. He has a medical degree from Harvard Medical School and a BS in biology from Princeton University.

Celebrate Ohio State Research at the 2012 Research Expo
The 2012 Research Expo will be held at the Ohio Union.
The Ohio State Research Expo will be held on Tuesday October 2, 2012 at the Ohio Union from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This years event will showcase over 50 research centers, core laboraties, and campus vendors. The celebration continues on Thursday October 11, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. at the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. Caroline Whitacre, Vice President of Research will deliver the annual "State of Research" address, and present the 2012 Innovator of the Year awards. Heather MacPherson, PhD Candidate, is a graduate student in clinical psychology that recently received a CCTS TL1 award for her research in psychotherapy implementation and effectiveness.
