TinCaps Reading Program

February 6 - March 9

Warsaw Christian School Students K-6

Dear Parents and Students,

Warsaw Christian School is going to participate in the TinCaps Reading Program soon and, I want to fill you in on a few details for the program. The kick-off day is Monday, February 6th. The TinCaps Reading Program is divided into four segments representing a "base" on the baseball field. When a student completes a segment they will advance to the next base. The goal is to "hit a home run." Please see the game plan guidelines

 below:

Grades K-2 should do the following for each base:

Week 1 - (Feb. 6-10) - Home Plate to 1st base - Listen to 5 books

Week 2 - (Feb. 13-17) - 1st base to 2nd - Read 2 books to an adult

Week 3 - (Feb. 20-24) - 2ndbase to 3rd-Read 5 books to an adult

Week 4 - (Feb. 27-Mar. 2) - 3rd base to home - Read 1 book about a sport and write 1-2 sentences about the sport (staple the paper with the sentences to the verification form)

Grades 3-6 should do the following for each base:

Week 1 - (Feb. 6-10) - Home Plate to 1st base - Read a short non-fiction book

Week 2 - (Feb. 13-17) - 1st base to 2nd - Read at least 50 pages from a book about sports

Week 3 - (Feb. 20-24) - 2nd base to 3rd - Read at least 5 books to someone in any grade lower than their own

Week 4 - (Feb. 27-Mar. Mar. 2) - 3rd base to home - Choose a chapter in the Bible to read and write 2-3 sentences about it (staple the paper with the sentences to the verification form)

Students must bring their signed and completed verification slip each week the goal is accomplished by the Friday deadline, for that week, to their teacher. Small prizes will be awarded on Friday for each base completed.

Students will receive a ticket order form if they have completed the requirements for all four bases. In order for the students to be seated together with Warsaw Christian School, all ticket orders must be received no later than Friday March 16th. These forms will be sent home when the student has reached home plate. At that time you may order more tickets for the rest of your family (the free ticket is ONLY for the student who participates).

So, upon completion (Home Run!!) students will receive a free ticket to the TinCaps baseball game which

is scheduled for

Friday, April 27th at 7:05 p.m. We will sit together and the students will receive a free hot dog, soft drink and a surprise gift.

If you have further questions please call or email me.

Dear Warsaw Christian School Parents,

The information listed below is an announcement originally published by John Elcesser of Indiana Nonpublic Educator's Association (December 2011 Update). I am sharing it with you in case you are not aware of this tax benefit for parents who have children enrolled in private schools.

Our school code is B600

2011 Private School Parent Tax Deduction for Indiana

Private School and Home school Deduction Info for Parents:

This is the one program available to current parents. You may be eligible for a deduction based on education expenditures paid for each dependent child who is enrolled in a private school or is homeschooled.

Dependent child qualifications:

*     Your dependent child must be eligible to receive a free elementary or high school education (K-12 range) in an Indiana school corporation;

*     You must be eligible to claim the child as a dependent on your federal tax return; and

*     The child must be your natural or adopted child or, if not, you must have been awarded custody of the child in a court proceeding making you the court appointed guardian or custodian of the child

Education Expenditure:

This refers to any expenditures made in connection with enrollment, attendance, or participation of your dependent child in a private elementary or high school education program. The term includes tuition, fees, computer software, textbooks, workbooks, curricula, school supplies (other than personal computers), and other written materials used primarily for academic instruction or for academic tutoring, or both. The term does not include the delivery of instructional service in a home setting to your dependent child who is enrolled in a school corporation or a charter school.

Private Elementary or High School Education Program:

A "private elementary or high school education program" means attendance at a nonpublic school (including a private school, a parochial school and a home school) in Indiana that satisfies a child's obligation for compulsory attendance at a school. The obligation for "compulsory attendance" means a child must be in attendance in a school (public and/or private) for a minimum of 180 days in a calendar year. No deduction will be available based on a child who attends school for a period of less than 180 days in a calendar year.

Figure your deduction:

If you made an unreimbursed education expenditure during 2011 your deduction is:

(1) $1,000; multiplied by

(2) the number of qualified dependent children for whom you made education expenditures.

Example: Greg and Constance have three children ages 7, 9, and 11. The two oldest children attend a private school. The youngest child attends the neighborhood public school. The parents purchased schoolbooks for all three children. They will be eligible for a $2,000 deduction (the youngest does not qualify as he attends a public school).

Special Notes: A qualifying child may be claimed for this deduction only once per year. For example, if a husband and wife are married and filing separately, whichever parent is eligible to claim the child as a dependent for exemption purposes is eligible to claim this deduction.

How to report the deduction: If the private school or home school is registered with the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), enter the school's name and identifying number assigned by the IDOE.

Examples:

*     On Schedule 2 line 11a enter "Your Christian School Name and Number" in the "Enter deduction name" box, followed by code no. 626 and the amount of the deduction.

*     If the school is not registered with the IDOE, just enter the name "XYZ Home school" in the "Enter deduction name" box, followed by code no. 626 and the amount of the deduction.

*     If the school has no designated name, enter "private school/home school" in the "Enter deduction name" box, followed by code no. 626 and the amount of the deduction.

*     For more information about this deduction, see Income Tax Information Bulletin #107 at www.in.gov/dor/3650.htm.

The above information and forms are available on the INPEA Website.
