Upcoming Events to Support North Star Reach and Camp on the Move

"How Can I Help?"

First, we would like to say "Thank You" to all of you for your interest and support in North Star Reach. We love hearing that you want to get involved! Things are really starting to ramp up for the fundraising and events committees. We are looking for volunteers to help at upcoming events, participants for run/walk/swim races and advocates to help spread the word on our camp. Below is a list of the upcoming opportunities. We look forward to seeing you out at these events and thank you again for your continued support!

Dine out for North Star Reach:

Arbor Brewing Company- in Ann Arbor is hosting a Beer Tasting Fundraiser on Tuesday, August 23 from 6:30 - 8:30pm. Tickets are $30 and must be purchased by August 15. Please call Stephanie Cloutier for more information at 734.936.9134.

We also need a dozen volunteers from 6:00 PM - 9:00PM. Volunteers will help with set-up and tear-down as well as man pouring stations & the check-in table. If you are interested email patrick@northstarreach.org.

Chili's - Every Tuesday in August on Washtenaw Ave in Ann Arbor. 10% of your bill will be donated to North Star Reach.

Camp On The Move

Camp on the Move 2011 "I had so much fun and it is my favorite place on Earth," was what one camper had to say after returning from a week at Victory Junction in North Carolina.

Nine children and three volunteers enjoyed the magic of camp through North Star Reach's fourth summer of Camp On The Move. Over 50 children have attended camps in Florida, New York and North Carolina thanks to the support of generous donors and the gift of time from volunteers. Camp On The Move was established by the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps to assist organizations, such as North Star Reach, that are working toward membership, to send children to operating Hole in the Wall Camps, free of charge.

Camp on the Move has been a powerful tool to engage hospitals and pediatric programs by not only serving their patients, but also educating doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists and other health care providers about the value of camp in their patients' recovery. This program also helps develop parents and campers as North Star Reach advocates who are able to articulate transformative experiences that camp can give to children with serious illness as well as highlight the challenges associated with sending children to camps out of state.

"We appreciate everything you did before and during camp. You have provided a wonderful opportunity that has made a lasting impression," stated a camper parent.
