Camp on the Move

This summer, North Star Reach will participate in its fourth season of Camp on the Move, a program established by  Hole in the Wall Camps to help build awareness of developing camps as well as begin to serve local campers and families.

Since 2008, North Star Reach has provided 38 children with the opportunity to experience a Hole in the Wall Camp first hand.  This summer, nine campers and three volunteers will spend a week at Victory Junction in North Carolina.  Past campers have also attended Double H Ranch in New York and Camp Boggy Creek in Florida.

CEO, Doug Armstrong believes North Star Reach's participation in Camp on the Move has provided insight into the details of an operating camp that are difficult to see from the outside and has given campers and volunteers "a great opportunity to get a sneak peek of the magical program we will host at North Star Reach."

on move

This program is free of charge for all campers, much like future programs at North Star Reach.  Hole in the Wall Camps have had a long standing practice of providing barrier free environments for children and their families, including universally accessible camps, providing 24-hour medical support and offering camp to children regardless of an ability to pay.

As North Star Reach will serve Michigan and surrounding states, campers for this summer's camp have been recruited from Children's Hospital of Michigan and C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and come from across Michigan and Northwest Ohio.

An Important Milestone Achieved

North Star Reach received final site plan approval for the camp master plan from the Unadilla Township Planning Commission. This important step clears the way for continued development of building design and construction plans. To aid in this process, a Construction Advisory Committee has been formed to provide leadership, insight, advice and expertise throughout the rest of the project. Committee members have been called from across the state with a variety of construction related backgrounds.

North Star Reach resides in parts of Putnam and Unadilla Townships within Livingston County.

Swim to the Moon, Reach for the Stars swim

On August 28, 2011, Swim to the Moon will be hosted at our camp by Epic Races. What is "Swim to the Moon"? It's an exhilerating 5k open-water swim through the Hiland Chain of Lakes near Hell, Michigan that will support North Star Reach. The action-packed start will take place on the shores of our camp at the west side of Patterson Lake. Swimmers will swim south and east through the heavily forested Pinckney Recreation Area, passing through five lakes along the way. Scattered cottages are the only signs of civilization. The Finish Line is at the State beach on the east shore of Halfmoon Lake.  Donations for North Star Reach are being accepted on Epic Races website.
