Windblown Cross Country Skiing

Windblown Winter Weekly

Volume 11, Number 14

March 11, 2011

Dear Skiers and Snowshoers,

It's looking like this could be the last weekend of skiing for this season. Today's rain is not wiping us out, but next week's rain could. Saturday and Sunday will be fine spring skiing conditions. We'll be grooming up 15 to 20 kilometers tomorrow morning and there will be another 6 k of backcountry ski trails open. Trail fees will be reduced. The forecast is for partly sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-40s both days. The surface will be a soft granular with some thin or icy spots. Lower and north facing trails have the most snow. The base is still 6" to 12". Plenty of snow to enjoy a nice glide through the woods.

Saturday we are having the biggest used rental ski sale in years. It's a great opportunity to own a set of high quality waxless skis for considerably less than buying new. We are selling lots of kids sizes as well as adults skis, boots and snowshoes. Be sure to bring cash or checks - we do not accept debit or credit cards.

All skis come with Salomon Profile SNS bindings. Children skis are $60 to $80 and children boots are $35. Adult skis are $95 to $130 and boots are $55 to $65. We have some new-this-season steel edge waxless skis for $175. Snowshoes are $99 to $109. We always have new poles for sale. Tomorrow we are having a 25% off sale on all poles, hats and gloves! Time to get that hat you've had your eye on all season.

Ski Orienteering

The Ski-Orienteering event is on for tomorrow. It's great fun for all ages and abilities. Courses can be skied or snowshoed by individuals or as a group so the whole family can experience this fun outdoor learning opportunity. Check it out! Starts are from 10 am to 12 pm. Cost is $5 plus a trail ticket. For more info go to

Up North Orienteers.

This photo is from a Ski-O for the pros in Norway, but the orange and white control flags will look the same here.

Another snow storm is still possible, never say never, but . . . then again, it's more likely this is farewell to winter. Hope you can join us this weekend.
