Windblown Cross Country Skiing

Windblown Winter Weekly

Volume 11, Number 9

February 4, 2011

Dear Skiers and Snowshoers,

It appears we are approaching the height of winter. The height of snow depth, the height of beauty, and the height of pleasure for snow lovers. This is not to say that winter's height is short lived. If we're lucky it will stick around another four to six weeks with fresh snow replenishing the surface every few days. This is quintessential New England at it's peak. I expect the local Inns and B&B's will be humming this weekend in this "Currier and Ives" corner of New Hampshire.

Top of the Drop

The snow just keeps piling up and we're all wondering where to put it. Another 15" arrived this week. On the trails it's always welcome and easy to pack it down with the snowcats to make a superb skiing surface. The blades on the groomers are essential for carving through the drifts. Removing the snow from the parking lots is more of a challenge, so we love it when big snowstorms hit mid-week giving us plenty of time to push back the banks before the weekend. Saturday afternoon we are expecting snow ending by midnight with 4" to 6" possible. On Sunday morning we may need to send skiers with all-wheel-drive cars up the hill to the upper parking lots.

With daylight hanging around longer now it's tempting to ski later, so we want to remind you to please return to the Ski Shop before 5 pm. Cars left in the parking lots after 5 pm indicate that someone may be hurt on the trails. Our work day starts at 6 am and ends at 6 pm. Thanks for your cooperation.

Here comes another awesome weekend of skiing and snowshoeing!

Hope to see you on trails,

Irene
