Western Horse Show Fashion Clinic 2: Color and Style
Color and style are the key elements of your western horse show wardrobe- by Suzanne Dmec, Equus
In the second half of this introduction to the Western Show Ring Fashion Series, let's look at color and style tips. Both play an important part in making your show presentation outstanding. Keep your riding skills and your horse's best traits in mind as you read along and consider how you can best use color and style to flatter your show-ring performance.
What Color? Color plays a very important role in the impression you make in the show ring. You must flatter your horse at the same time you try to look unique--a trick when there are 20 sorrel horses with riders in black chaps loping around together!
Before you choose colors, keep in mind that the color of your horse affects the overall picture much more than your little face. Don't ever choose something you don't like, but dress for your horse as well as yourself, because very little of your coloring shows in the pen, compared to the acre of horse you're riding!
Do some research: Consider a trip to the library for a book on fashion and color, and do your own research for both you and your horse. ("He's tall, dark, and handsome and looks good in a gray flannel suit.") Or check out the Winning Colors interActiv feature on my website (see below). It's a fun way to preview color combinations for you and your horse. When it comes to color, trust your instincts, start simple, and study the impression color creates in the show ring before you start spending...

Look Who's Wearing the Brand
Barranada Shirt Company
Looking to update your wardrobe for fall with some classic, sophisticated pieces? Search no further than Barranada Shirt Company.
With special attention to cut, quality and fit, Barranada (Spanish for "bar none") designs shirts that can go from the arena to the boardroom. These shirts are known for their outstanding fit: longer sleeves and shirttails, plus critical ease through the shoulder area for an arena (or boardroom!) look that does not pull or bind. Barranada's distinctive shirts are punctuated with mother-of-pearl buttons bearing the Barranada brand.
"Our shirts for men and women are made from beautiful fabrics exquisitely tailored to deliver that perfectly classic look that never goes out of style," says Barbara Graves, Barranada owner and designer.
Jill Voss was the winner of the Gordyville Shootout in Amateur Western Pleasure this year. She was announced first of twenty competitors while riding her mare, One Hot Drama Mama, and proudly wearing Barranada's Ace.
Jill also competed at the Big A in Atlanta this summer. She is ranked top five in the nation in Amateur Western Pleasure. Jill and her mare have earned a Superior in Amateur Western Pleasure and qualified for the AQHA World Show in Amateur Performance Halter, Amateur Western Pleasure and Junior Western Pleasure.
As the popular style for horse showing moves away from flashy "bling" toward a more elegant, solid-color look, Jill is joined by many top trainers and exhibitors who have opted for Barranada's classic-tailored shirts, as they exude confidence in the animal's performance as well as the rider's ability.

THE ARRANGEMENT RAISES OVER $25,000 FOR THE SPCA
Benefitting SPCA of Texas and Houston SPCA, The Arrangement hosted, simultaneously in Dallas and Houston, a Vegas-style fundraiser September 10, 2011, to help raise awareness of the good work the SPCA does. The event's silent auction had two very special items: A full-sized Texas Ranch Play House and a Pulitzer Photography Edition of The Cowboy Life by Skeeter Hagler.
The Arrangement guests had fun playing casino games, adopting out animals and silent auction bidding, all of which helped to raise over $25,000 for the two charities. Additionally, a portion of The Arrangement's sales went to support our four-legged friends. The Presidents, James Bias, SPCA of Texas, and Patricia Mercer, Houston SPCA, attended. Live Music, custom drinks and door prizes added to the festivities.
