On men, it completes the look to have a scarf that goes well with the color of your shirt, and it is very important to have a trial run wearing your shirt while riding to ensure that the fit is correct. A definite no-no for men is the balloon shirt, which we have all seen. From the front, the shirt looks fine, but from the back, the shirt billows out. A scarf or pin added to any Barranada shirt completes the look for the woman exhibitor.

Spiritual & Religious Themes in Fashion 

For centuries, spiritual symbols and themes have inspired the creation and display of art. It comes as no surprise to Joanne Sunnarborg, owner of Desperado Couture in Bend Oregon's Old Mill District, that many spiritual and religious symbols have become more prominent (and accepted) within the fashion world.

"Symbols of one's spiritual beliefs have stood the test of time throughout the world and within the art community," Joanne said. "Now, the fashion world is paying homage to these very symbols."

Today, from Madison Avenue to the Old Mill District, it's common to find clothing and accessories embellished with symbols such as crosses, angel wings, rosaries, the depiction of saints, or the peace sign.

While this ultimate display of wearing one's heart on their sleeve may transcend certain styles, Joanne sees it more as a tradition within the Western style of clothing. 

"Because the Western lifestyle is so eclectic, it often incorporates elements of Mexican, Spanish, and Native American cultures," she said. "These cultures are steeped in spiritual and religious tradition, and that's often depicted within their clothing and accessories."

From jewelry, belts, and hats to embellishments on jackets and blue jeans, the means for spiritual expression are many within the world of style and fashion. "It's less a trend," says Joanne, "than a timeless expression of the heart and mind." 

"Fashion today allows people to express themselves in many different ways," she said. "This gives people the ability to reflect their own personal beliefs in a way that's both attractive and artistic. Many of these symbols have meanings that are universal within specific religious circles, but often people find their own, more personal meanings through the display of these symbols."

Your Guide to Texas and Red Dirt Music

Kevin Fowler is back on the Texas Music Chart this week! His single, "Hell Yeah, I Like Beer" went from 0 to 379 plays in just one week earning him the #44 spot. Also new to the Chart this week is Brison Bursey Band with "Solid Ground," Dean Seltzer with "Beatle Song," and Bo Phillips Band with "Peace On Earth." 

Eli Young Band continues to dominate the Chart in the #1 position with Reckless Kelly and "I Hold The Bottle, You Hold The Wheel" at number two. Cory Morrow jumps from #6 to the #3 spot with "Lead Me On" while James Lann holds on to #4 with "Halfway To Houston" and Bleu Edmondson breaks in to the #5 with "Blood Red Lincoln."
