I grew up in Oklahoma, not too far from the boyhood home of Will Rogers. Will was a cowboy entertainer/philosopher/political satirist who had a way of saying things in a short, humorous way. He especially valued honesty and integrity. He is still often quoted today.

Will Rogers He once said, "I guess truth can hurt you worse in an election than about anything that can happen to you." Nothing has changed, the majority of politicians walk a fine line between the truth and fiction, favoring the line that is likely to get them reelected - or they ride the fence, avoid the issue and talk around it. Along that line, someone once yelled at Harry Truman from the campaign crowd, "Give 'em hell Harry"; he yelled back, "I just tell 'em the truth and they think it's hell." He almost didn't get reelected.

Politicians have also learned to talk in broad terminology, letting the voter interpret what is being said. For me (and I hope our readers) I am for politicians that speak in specifics with ideas and plans that sound workable. I am not here to endorse a political candidate but, if you listen carefully, there are a couple of these individuals running for president and I hope one of them get the nomination.

Will Rogers also said, "Never miss a good chance to shut up.".
